NEC FE950+ or Dell P991?

I'm buying a new monitor in the next day or so and was thinking between these two models given that I want a flat screen 19" AG monitor. The NEC is a little more expensive but I like the black casing. Was just looking for some "real" opinions of these two monitors from people familiar with them. The NEC is around $320 and the Dell for $280.

Well, I use a Dell P991 at work all day, everyday, and I just bought an NEC FE950+ for my home system a few weeks ago. IMO, both monitors are pretty much equal as far as overall image quality at all resolutions/refresh rates. The two main reasons I went for the NEC for my home system is 1) I was able to get it locally, so if there's any type of problem I can get it exchanged fairly easily and quickly without paying shipping and handling, and 2) It came in a cool black case which matches my keyboard, mouse, and Antec case I really don't think you would go wrong with either monitor, but I always take the convenience factor into account when buying something this large, and expensive.

I also have a black Antec case, black keyboard, and a grey/dark grey intellimouse explorer so yea the NEC would "match" better. I just wanted to make sure I got the best monitor for the price paid. Both would be ordered from dell (no sales tax, shipping, 10% off, etc) so return convenience isn't an issue...although both come with a 3 year warrenty.

I had both and ended up keeping the dell (the black version of it). Overall image quality was close between the two but the dell was slightly sharper and had noticeably better screen geometry. I actually tried out two nec monitor because I thought the first one had a screen defect in which the top of the image would sag in towards the middle and the bottom image bow upwards towards the middle of the screen. After I saw that the second exhibited the same problem and it was even worse on this unit I tried out the dell and it showed near flawless screen geometry. The irony was that the nec has a lot more image controlls, but nothing helped to correct that problem.

Seems like everybody is going the black/silver route now. I am just missing the matching keyboard. When will ms or logictech come out with and black/silver ergo keyboard...

I have owned the Dell P991 since October 2000, almost 1.5 years now. Although it's boring beige, it's an excellent monitor, bright, crisp, sharp and focused ... just wish it weren't so HUGE and HEAVY.
