NEC LCD2490WUXi2 vs LCD2490WUXi

I am debating these (or just sticking with a LP2475W) two monitors at about double what I intended on spending.

I am also thinking of getting the SV option for the calibrator...not sure if its better than the third party ones out there.

How do these compare?

Anyone know a source for higher end refurbs? Eizo and the like?

i recall some time ago someone mentioned eizo switched over to pva panels. not sure if that is still the case or not.

If you are looking for a good place to buy, try Spectraflow or Fineye (Chromaticity) who both sell the Eizo monitors and also our color management experts. I have heard very good things about the NEC's, for color retouching they offer a very good price point. What is your ultimate end use for the monitor? Retouching? I use the Dell 2709/3007HC monitors and the wide gamut of the 2709 took a while to get used to. I calibrate with ColorEyes Display pro and have a EyeOne Pro, DTP94, and EyeOne Display. Hardware calibration with a nice 10-12 bit LUT allows for very smooth transitions, and does not actually reduce the monitors color gamut like most software calibrations.

My needs are color accuracy and I'd like to still be able to play FPS without hassles. I am coming from a Sony G500 and had debated finding a FW900.

I don't really have a budget, but at the same time don't want to just waste money.

In the whole scheme of things I am not a pro gamer and I am not making huge amounts from press ready work.

Hard to justify that price, then. The popular place for NEC refurbs is techforless but they don't have any 2490s right now and their 2690v2 is not a great deal. Both v1 models have been seen there for under $600 as factory refurbs, but I wouldn't expect to see that ever again.

just picked up a refurb 2490WUXI for $460 shipped. Hopefully it's with no dead pixels or blemishes like the vendor stated.
