Hey fanbois, back up your suggestions! Anyone can yell out a brand because they probably own it. I for one, own a NEC 3500A and I recommend it as well as the Pioneer. They both use NEC chips and both produce high quality burns. Plextor and Liteon have amazing CD-RW reputations, but they aren't much to talk about when it comes to DVD-RW.

Either way, you won't be burning at 16x - I read a nec 3500a review stating that it actually burned faster at 12x than at the unstable 16x
