Need a Budget PSU

I need to play Skyrim. It's a physical need tearing at my innards. I recently bought a pc, but to my dismay, the graphics card wasn't the only thing needing an upgrade. The psu, which worked fine running my AMD HD 5440, will never ever be able to support a good graphics card. It's only 5 amps.

I bought a GeForce GTX 460 GC 768MB DDR5 because it'll probably run Skyrim nicely on high settings. I also have an AMD Phenom II X4 3.2 Ghz processor already installed in case that info is needed. What's the cheapest reliable psu that'll support my pc?

Requirements include a minimum of 450W with a minimum 12V current rating of 24A. I will not be able to spend more than $100, and as much less as possible is preferred. Thanks.

5 amps PSU... really? It think you're looking at a specific rail, not the whole PSU. Which model is it, exactly?

Side note: I'm not totally convinced that 768mb VRAM will be enough for Skyrim on high settings... We'll know when it's released.

EDIT: You need a PSU with 2x 6-pin PCI-e connectors for your card. Those are usually found on 400-500W+ power supplies, and that Cooler Master isn't one of them. Here are some good ones

My monitor's native is 1440x900, but I wouldn't think it would run very well in 1080

That antec neo looked like the best value of the bunch, but then I saw that it doesn't have the correct number of pins on the PCI-E connectors. (or will a 6+2pin also work for a 6-pin?) Thx for answering by the way.

What about this?

or this?

Also, the current model for my psu is ATX-TL500W-BK 15V. It's usually a $20 psu.

Please stay clear from diablotek, or you may pay the price. Newegg has the antec Neo 520 for $55 shipped and Neo 620 for $50 after a 10 to 20 mail in rebate. Around the same price but actually good reliable psus. I would link but its a pain from my phone ;P

Edit* 6+2 pins work in 6 pin no prob. You will just have have 2 pins dangling near connector

6+2 pin means it can fit both 6-pin and 8-pin headers.

I looked through several PSUs and all the ones I linked will work very nicely in your setup. Personally I would prefer the XFX as it is a Seasonic-manufactured power supply (yes, I'm partial to them, they get invariably positive reviews, always have done) and has 5 year warranty. Antec Neo ECO is also Seasonic, but shorter warranty and a bit lower efficiency.

I strongly recommend against the likes of diablotek.

Eco 620C is a good choice too, though overkill for the current setup. Maybe you'll have use for it later in a more power hungry setup, but probably not.

Two people in a row don't like Diablotek? Then I won't be buying from them! Thanks for the info.

I can't thank you enough for the help; I think I'll probably buy the antec NEO ECO. It sounds perfect, and if ever decide to SLI, I'll just decide then whether or not to upgrade the psu. One last question though: What do you think of this?

The ripple suppression (a power characteristic you can read up on here) on that unit could be better, see here. The ripple suppression on a Neo ECO, on the other hand, is excellent. Perhaps someone else could explain exactly why ripple matters, or what effects bad ripple suppression can potentially have.

Modularity on a 550W unit is largely unneeded, you'll be using most of the cables anyway. The combined +12V output is only 450W despite a rated wattage of 550W, while the single +12V rail of Neo Eco 520C is 40A or 480W, so it's actually a more capable unit as far as specs go. 576W for the 620C.

I'd also consider the fact that the Neo ECO 520C is $55 before rebate, while the OCZ 550 is $70. After rebate, the Neo Eco 620C is only $5 more.

Well, the wiki article had a couple good reasons about why ripple is bad:

1. Within digital circuits, it reduces the threshold, as does any form of supply rail noise, at which logic circuits give incorrect outputs and data is corrupted.
2. High-amplitude ripple currents shorten the life of electrolytic capacitors.

Don't get anything generic and ridiculously cheap. They sometimes explode and my friend did this with his first build and it literally caught fire. I recommend the Corsair builder series, I have a 430W one and it works fine except for some wierd squealing noises when the PC isn't powered on. You can get them in 500W and 600W as well I think, and they're pretty cheap. Not modular unfortunately, but we can't have everything.
