For the price range and 4dr sedan, I'd take a VW Passat TDI or an Audi A4 1.8T(base).

If you want the extra room and fuel economy than the Passat with TDI is better.

If you want a sedan with a little sport the A4 1.8T is better.

300c or a Magnum
You might even be able to get into a Hemi with the Magnum for $26k but I doubt it.

If it's a toy, get something unusual and/or sporty. If it's going to be your daily driver... get something with a tiny little 4 banger that gets 30 mpg.

My 2003 accord gets 30 mpg in mixed driving.

I am pretty happy with my accord, but like others mentioned, why don't you test drive all the others also. Keep in mind if you are not happy with the Accord's handling, it is easily fixed if you can do simple automotive work. IMO the only real weakness to the accord is the stock handling, but after the swaybar upgrade ($50), it's great.

Hey guys,

By the end of the summer, I need to buy a new car. Right now, I have a 2001 VW Jetta, and like it a lot. I had every intention of buying another Jetta (2004 model); however, I thought I should investigate some other cars before making my purchase.

So far, I have looked at the new Altima, Accord, Civic, and Camry, but I do not know much about each of these models. Some of the features I would like (but are not necessarily required) are a v-6, alloy wheels, and sunroof.

Can anyone make any recommendations, either from the few I have listed, or some other cars in the same price range?

Thanks a bunch

Edit: I forgot to mention that I do want a four door sedan, and my price range is about $22,000 - $26,000.

GASP you say you like the VW but you didn't even consider the Passat. It's a great car and fits into your budget.

Top-of-the-line Jetta, or low end Passat or A4?

I think the top-of-the-line Jetta is a better choice... perhaps I should reconsider, though.

How about a Nissan Frontier crew cab? I picked mine up for 19K, new. Supercharged, 2 wd, leather, 6 disc cd, 5 speed, 430 posi rear, towing package, bed liner, sun roof, 265/55/17" wheels/tires, roof rack, tinted windows. Added a matching cap and roof rack for about $850. Runs like that proverbial bat. Lots of room.

Are you paying cash or financing the vehicle? I don't want to trash your thread but I'm curious about your age (19) and ability to purchase a 20-26k car. I'll give you a thumbs up if you're buying cash.

For 26K, you could probably get a mid-range Passat or a base model A4. Or, you could get a cerfified pre-owned A6 that is better equipped. Your call, I guess.

I will look into both... as I think I misjudged the cost of a Passat. Thanks for the suggestions

If it were me, I'd try to haggle an RX-8 into that price.

If you like German cars, a used M3 or 330.

Not sure on the current pricing, but I bought my '99 M3 a couple years ago for $30K. Not sure if you can get a 2001 for much under low 30s though. '99 might be too old for you if you're barely considering used.
