Need a card good enough to run Win 10

From some old parts I had lying around I managed to build a spare PC. Win 10 installed fine but my ATI X1950 Pro is too old and is not supported by Win 10.

I will try to find a cheap used video card. Can you recommend a card that would be supported by Win 10?

I do not need a powerful card. I just need something modern enough to be supported by Win 10.

What CPU, or onboard video work?

Check local craigslist and just google the part to see if it works, any card with win8 or newer drivers should work.

Is that a AGP card, or is that a PCIe card? IIRC, they made both kinds, and if you have a motherboard with only a AGP slot, that really limits your buying options.

Motherboard is an old ASUS P5B-Plus with an E4300 CPU and 2 MB of RAM.

Onboard video is not supported. Board has PCIe

Denis54,

Anything Kepler based or newer (like GT 640 / 750 / 950) will work great with your PC. Speaking of AMD, I'd wait for RX 460 at this point.

And likewise, anything that is HD7000 series or newer is supported on the AMD side.

If you want new, an RX460 would be great at $99 dollars (just have to wait a bit)

$30, with a $10 mail-in rebate for this GT710. This is a DX11 Kepler based card. This should support Windows 10. It is passively cooled and should be pretty silent, and in a PC with a Core 2 Duo, the power consumption (19 watts TDP) will be modest relative to the rest of the system. On the flip side, obviously this isn't for gaming, so I assume that you just want to bring this computer to life for the lowest cost possible (unless you are looking to play 2D or classic games).

you should be able to use Vista and Win 7 drivers on Win 10

I have a PC with GMA 950 and had a Geforce 6100 IGP running Windows 10 OK with proper drivers (not the generic MS ones)

That is overkill for the OP though.
Maybe, but RX460 should be great for 4K video encode/decode. Fully compliant with Google's VP9 codec. Perfect for YouTube, imo. Should last 3-5 years easily for that purpose alone. Worth the premium, imo.

Did you guys recommending a 460 actually *read* what the OP wants? Something like that 20.00 after rebate GT710 seems much more appropriate. Or a used 7750/7770.

I suppose, GT710 for $20 would make the most cost-efficient upgrade for his system. As long as the cooler is quiet enough, hate the tiny fans, personally. I'd rather get something like this. The only con, it's no longer modern, 1440p+ YouTube will stutter on his C2D. 1080p max. And 4K does look great even on my 5:4 monitor. So, it's hard not to recommend the upcoming RX 460.

Alternatively, I'd upgrade the whole system early next year with an iX Kaby Lake.

Plenty of options.

You clearly didn't even click the link. It is passively cooled.
