I've been out of the computer building game for awhile now, and am going to soon be upgrading--soon being within the year. That being said, American Express for some reason wants to give me free money if i spend some money soon, so i am looking for a case for the future (Since i figure cases are relatively future proof)!

Anyway, the long and short of it, is that my computers almost always have the following components. A dvd/blu ray drive, 1 or 2 hard drives max, maybe a SSD, and a big sata drive, unless i just opt for a huge ssd drive. A cpu, maybe a custom cooler, but maybe not, a 300-400 dollar GPU, whatever ram is available and that's about all there is to it.

So, i want a Case that will fit said components.

My eye tends towards the sleeker, and simpler style cases. I've never owned a lian li, but i like the look of them, and thought some of the Silverstones look decent, but honestly there are a lot that look good. antec p380 looked promising also, corsairs, themaltake etc...I'm just getting old and do not need the big flashy lights or giant protrusions that may have interested me more in my youth!

Anyway, suggestions as to a particular case? Higher quality (aluminum) would be nice, but i do not want to go over $200.

Will a next gen GPU fit into a micro atx case (This is important!)? Is a Mid Tower too much (I just always notice that i have way too much space in my mid towers, so i figure it would be better to get a higher quality smaller case)? Will it be a pain in the ass to put a PSU in a mini-atx?

Probably too many questions, but i am having buying paralysis!

Thanks for taking the time!

to help you out we need more info...a lot more info.

1. what type of motherboard compatability do you want?
ATX-E / ATX / mATX / ITX?

2. You asked for one with a mid sized gpu support, however are u ever going to go full sized gpu length? Example... the higher tier gpu cards... like a 290X / 980GTX

3. Optimal drives are dying / phasing out of case builds lately. If you really need them, people Opt for USB Opticals, if its a newer build because you can take them from one system to another without any removal. Do you absolutey need a optical drive?

4. What kind of custom cooler are u looking at?
AIO (all in one watercooling like a corsair H100) , a large tower like a Noctuna D-14?
If its a AIO how big is the radiator? 120x1 120x2 120x3 140x1 140x2 ?

While i appreciate the time, and the post, all the information you are asking for I basically do not have, and will not have until later in the year, so i will just continue to frivolously look at cases. I'll probably just opt for a mid tower to make sure i have enough room for everything.

Personally, if you are going with a single GPU, you might just go mATX. Yes, there is a slight cost premium, depending on the board.

As far as cases, I'm in the 'smaller is better' department... and I like well built cases. Take a look at the Fractal Design cases... very well built, steel (not aluminum, so they are a little heavy,) and pretty sleek design. I really like the Define Mini... smallish mATX, and like all Defines, a front door and sound damping material. There is even WC support if you go that way, but if you want to put a radiator on it, I'd probably look at the R4 or R5. Fractal makes other cases, I have a Arc Mini that is designed to accept a radiator on top at roughly the same size as my Define Mini... but minus the door and sound damping.
