Need a cheap DVD burner worth buying :) What's a hot one now?

I need to make movies from my digital vid camera. I see that all but the crappiest burners now burn in + and - and +RW and -RW. Low end burners from newegg are 8X+R, 8X-R and 4X for both of the RWs. It seems that for about $75 I can get a basic dual layer like this one. Is that all you need for dual layering then? I see that this is only +R DL. Has there been some level of consensus going forward that dual layering would be +? I don't even know if that's a meaningful question

Newegg has a bunch of cheapy DLs right now, so I figured it would be worth spending the $10 to upgrade to that. Thanks!

Skoorb, I don't know how patient you are with rebates but sometimes in ATHD they have cheap rebadged NEC-2500 drives which can be flashed to 2510 for DL capability. *SUPPOSEDLY* as reliable as getting the 2510 outright. But $72 really isn't a bad price at all. Now if only the media didn't cost 1/8th the price of the drive...

Be sure not to overlook the fact dual layer discs are at $10 a piece cheapest. Compare that to single layer DVD+-r discs that are so cheap and rapidly getting even lower in price, practically anywhere you shop. You might want to rethink the importance of dual layer drives right now.

Skoorb, with this burner, you can burn single layer DVD's now since they are so cheap, and then burn DL DVD's once they become cheaper (i.e. <$10 each)

Thanks everyone. I think I'll have to go with this one. Sucks that it's black, so maybe I can find a white one, but I don't care that much So, when DL becomes more mainstream (considering I won't be upgrading this for a long time, I still want that capability, for when the discs aren't so much), the "+DL" is probably going to be it, as opposed to the big fight between - and + that there is now in non DL?

It looks like the "+" has essentially won the war.
In my experience as long as I can change the media Book Type from DVD+R to DVD-ROM, then it offers ultimate compatibility even with older stand alone DVD players.
I had to get the Booktype utility from Lite-On though.
Anybody know if NEC offers a booktype utility or if Lite-Ons can be used there as well?
