Well, if it were me I would put my voltage up and see what I can get out of her. Do it gradually. I wish I could remember my exact settings but it's been a while. Sorry.

Cool, I will give it a go. I will let you know what I end up with.

Looks like I am hitting a brick wall. Windows won't boot if I raise the Vcore beyond 1.325, so I can only push it to 3.33Ghz.

Hello everyone!

I am looking to OC my C2Q 6600 beyond 2.8ghz. I have been using a Zalman 9500 for about 4 years now, which has done a pretty good job, but the fan is starting to go so I am using that as an excuse to get a new one.

I have been doing research on coolers, but every source seems to recommend different coolers. Here are the ones I am contemplating:

1) Noctua NH-D14
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835608018
A lot more than I was hoping to spend, but can bite the bullet. I really like how you get 2 very good fans as well.
2) Tuniq Tower Extreme
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154011
I heard it doesn't spread heat throughout the multiple cores very well, is this true?
3) Tuniq Tower
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154001
Ole reliable. It has been around for a while, but seems to still work very well.
4) Thermaltake Frio
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106150
Bit-Tech rated this the best in their testing. (Ugly as sin, but oh well.)
5) Prolimatech Megahalems
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835242001
I have seen this recommended in some threads here.
6) Spire Thermax Eclipse II
http://www.coolerguys.com/840556091646.html?productid=840556091646&channelid=FROOG
FrostyTech rated this heatsink #1, but I also heard their testing isn't real world.
7) Titan Fenrir
http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/titan-fenrir-universal-cpu-cooler-ttc-nk85tz.html
Heard good things about it from a few sites.

If you guys have any other recommendations, let me know.

Thanks everyone!

I use the Artic Freezer 7 pro with bolt thru kit. I use the TJ06 case with wind tunnel, Im not sure how much the tunnel helps but @ 3ghz on load the CPU was around 53c IIRC
Pix in sig!

Got my shit installed for the backup pc. Cut holes for 120mm fans in the top and bottom of the case, and have the H50 in push/pull. Now I remember why I wanted the 800D for my main pc, cable management is a breeze lol.

I tried raising my voltage to 1.35v and bumping it to 3.4Ghz, but I kept getting Prime95 errors. Do you think I should try pushing the voltage a bit more? What are safe temps for the Q6600?

Thanks

Although not the safe temperatures until the processor starts *melting*, Intel recommends Tcase temps of 62.2*C for B3 and 71*C for G0: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29765&processor=Q6600&spec-codes=SL9UM,SLACR I prefer not to have any of my processors run above 70*C ever (an arbitrary figure I suppose).

I would say where you are at is very close to optimal. You may be able to squeeze another 100mhz by bumping the Vcore to 1.40-1.42. Personally, I would probably stop at 3.3 and enjoy the lowest voltage and lower temps. This motivated me to stop my Core i7 @ 3.9ghz. A ton of people chase 4.0-4.2ghz but that increased my temps about 8-10*C just to get another 100mhz.

Another way to look at it is going from 3.3 to 3.4ghz is just a 3% increase. If your processor is too slow for comfort at 3.3ghz, then a 3.4ghz overclock won't help you anyway

RickinZ28, the 800D looks awesome, along with the great components inside. Clean the dust though! Is it me or you are Rockin 4 displays?!!!

Yeah I think I won't push it any further. This should help prevent bottlenecking when I buy my GTX470. Now I just need one to go on sale!
