The Viewsonic G90fb 19" CRT is a shadowmask monitor with great reviews (I am using one right now). Read the NewEgg customer responses on this monitor for more opinions from end-users.

One person mentioned problems with the Samsung 997DF 19" shadowmask CRT. Everyone I have heard who owns one (other then the previous poster) has loved their Samsung. I do own an older Samsung 955DF and it is still going strong two years later. Read the customer feedback at NewEgg for more then one person's opinion. Also, realize if you order from NewEgg, they have very good customer support if there is a problem.

Both the IBM and Dell monitors posted look good and I want a new 19"+ CRT monitor and have $250 available to spend. Decisions, decisions...

I also have a Veiwsonic P95+B. For resolution and refresh rate it can't be beat IMO for a 19 inch monitor. I purchased it about 2 years ago from Newegg for 299.00. Shame they don't sell it anymore... at least at newegg?

I believe it optimal res. is 1600x1200 at 85 refresh rate. Maxed out at 2o48x1536 at 75 refresh rate

it doesn't take much effort to find a good place that still sells it... seems that monitor is still going strong. but if im going to upgrade i decided that it will be to a larger crt (and definitely ag) or a 19" 8ms lcd

Thanks for the info bro. Yea that 8ms LCD seems sweet too! I thought it was 17inch though? That one from Dell right?

How does the picture quality of a trinitron compare to that of a shadow mask? The pictures here make the monitor look like the pictures are very dull and not crisp at all.

i had the hyundai l90d+ in mind when i mentioned a 19" 8ms lcd

but it looks like in the end im really gonna seriously look for a good 21-22" crt... now the question is whether im willing to risk my money on a 'grade-a refurbish'

I would base my opinions on actual owners of the monitor not pictures on ebay my friend. Ask around .... I also think those pictures are rather fussy too.

after owning a 17" trinitron (cpd-g220r), a 19" 955df, 19" 997df, a 19" kds xb-9i (bought for sister), and a 19" a90f (dad's) i can easily say that teh trinitron is the absolute crispest and clearest of the bunch. I was hoping for the same quality from the rest, but when i look at it the shadow mask crts just dont match up. (i still work with a same model 17" trinitron at work)

Yea I'm going for another [bigger] ctr too. I'm waiting for the quality of LCD's to become better and for prices to drop a little more. Yea refurbished worries me but at that price I have to take a serious look.

Look for "Grade A" refurbished HP/Dell P1130s manufactured in the last couple years on eBay. I got mine for around $200 and it's as good as new. You can't beat a 21" Trinitron for gaming!

I've heard of these P1110s getting glitchy....I don't want that to happen because I won't have enough money for another if it's broken. Text

Thurgo0dy, did you read the links to the end-user customer reviews I gave on the bottom of page 1 of this thread?

The end-users can tell you what they think... I gave links to reviews of the G90fb and 997DF (both Shadowmask). All the reviews were 4 or 5 stars out of 5.

The contrast is very good on my Viewsonic G90fb, and I have no problems at all with my monitor.

Please look at the links on the bottom of page 1 if you haven't done so already. End-users are usually your most reliable source.

Here's more reviews from users.

I have both a 17" (Sony) and a 19" (Dell p990) Trinitron monitors and I am very satisfied with both. Both are now fairly old and are crisp and clear. I noticed the lines when I first bought the 17" on a white screen but now don't see them at all. I'm thinking about the IBM deal posted above as another upgrade. I mean 199 for a 21 inch Trinitron with free shipping? Thats a Hot deal. I would also consider something by NEC Mitsubishi because they also have a good reputation for quality monitors. Really nice ones are $500+ but here's one I noticed at Newegg recently: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-002-248&depa=1. It's a shadow mask which doen't have the lines but from what I've read they're not quite as good as Trinitrons.

buying these things from regular users sorta scare me... i did an estimate on a ups shipment for something of this size and it came up for like 80 dollars... but that was some time ago

Was wondering that too, figured it would be pretty high shipping cost.

Ive got a 19" NEC Multisync FE950+
and a IBM P260 sitting here just taking up space since i bought new LCDs. (both black)

Have no idea what i'm gonna do with them, theyre both EXCELLENT monitors!

GREAT prices there.
I paid $900.00 for my p260.
(i got it when they 1st came out and CRTs were still expensive)

I'd let it go for $250.00 just to get it out of here.

Anyone know if ya go to Fedex if they have packaging for this sorta thing?
