i want a 19" monitor that has:
> low response time (<20ms)
> true 24bit colour (not 18bit dithered)
> DVI input (no dsub for me)
> High Contrast (>500:1)

i have found many TFT's that have some of the attributes, but none with all, the above looks pretty close, but i don't know about the colour depth, whether it's true 24bit or 18bit dithered. do you?

8ms is overkill, 16ms or less would be fine, but it does have DVI and a great contrast ratio, so provided it find the last bit of the puzzle i will buy one, but not before.

regards

I think it is currently impossible to find a sub 20ms LCD at this time that is true 24-bit. I can assure you that the Hyundai is an 18-bit panel despite the claim of 16.7 million colors.

Another LCD you may want to look at is the ViewSonic VP912b. The contrast is only 450:1, but from what I have read it is supposed to be one of the best 19" LCDs you can buy right now. The only possible downside is that it uses the new LCD glare coating that people have either a love/hate relationship with.

Good luck!

EDIT: I also wanted to point out that the Hyundai has extremely limited viewing angles when compared to other fast 19" LCDs. Is that due to the 8ms refresh rate?

MaximumPC did a recent comparison of 8 LCD monitors and they graded them according to how the image looked at the non-native resolution. Only 3 LCD monitors were considered satisfactory for gaming. Check it out at MaximumPC

I've been going mad for the last couple of days reading TFT reviews and checking prices. I recently bought a 17" Hyundai and while I like it fine, the text is too small for my ageing eyes at the native 1280x1024 resolution.

A couple of things I've gleaned from reading:

- Different manufacturers rate pixel response time differently; listed values can only be compared within a manufacturers product line. Also, some manufacturers list the lowest response time which is not necessarily the time across the entire color spectrum.

- Pay attention to the native resolution rate of the monitor in question. TFT monitors are designed to run at one given resolution and using anything else will lead to blurry images because interpolation is used.

- Different types of screens are good for different uses. Fast response time monitors give up viewing angles and color depth. Visa versa for graphics/photo oriented monitors. Different horses for different courses.

Some good reading if you have time:

i bought the hyundai last week while it was 380 at newegg and I am still being blown away by it. there is no ghosting in games, it pivots, comes with dvi cable, even a headphone out. the dithering is visible if you are really looking for it but i think its a small price to pay since the monitor is perfect for gaming and has all those extra features. 5 out of 5 stars.
