I'm looking for something to have a little fun with... what are some good models and where can I buy one online?

I want something that is reasonable in price (less than 350) but reliable and accurate. May get into targeted shooting or competitive shooting.

No. The .22LR is a tiny cartridge about an an inch long, and the brass casing holding the propellant is .22in in diameter.
The AR-15 uses the 5.56x45mm round (also known as the .223) the cartridge is close to 3 inches long, and the propellant casing is 9mm ( .355in) in diameter.

Is the .22 rifle round the same as the one used in .22 pistols?

Nice plinker but not a good home protection item.

It may not drop someone to the floor, but if someone is getting hit by it they sure as well will feel it and most likely run away. Besides, enough holes should stop them eventually
