Going to put the evga 7800GTX KO's on water but I need a good bios to disable the throttling when the fan is disconnected and maybe supply a little more juice for oc'ing?? Any ideas were I could find one?? I'm pretty sure the cards will throttle with the fan disconnected..(at least my first evga 7800GTX did)...

LOL congrats... I know I could squeeze 20% out of this thing if I could just get more voltage... 10% more OC + (?) 10-20% boost from future drivers especially dual core would be fantastic.

you could easily get +10% oc on the gpu with the right cooling...I think most GTX's with a stock bios (and voltage) can get to 520-525mhz on water...I want 550+ though...

Seriously? I tried the fan mod from extreme systems and even with an idle temp of 40c I couldn't hit 499 w/o artifacting about 2 min in

Actually I was talking about water cooling. Seen a lot of guys hitting 520mhz on water with no vmods. 525mhz is the highest I've ever heard of without a vmod to the card or the bios though. I dunno...maybe it's not that common...sorry for the confusion. My first evga GTX (not a KO) would do 525mhz on water but would throttle w/out the fan connected...:|

couldnt you just connect the fan and glue it to the side of the case or something?

There are a lot of threads about modding nvidias bios, where to get the tools, and volt mods on that site.

RESEARCH WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO TO YOUR $600 CARD EXTENSIVELY BEFORE DOING SO.

DO NOT COOK YOUR CARD THROUGH STUPIDITY/IRRESPONSIBILITY AND RMA IT!!

Trust me...I am! Found some decent bios's but I'm not going to mess with them until I get another water block and some more ramsinks. Looking at running the Vgpu @ 1.5v but I'm waiting to see some more results from doing so as I don't want to fry these cards. I also need to replace my Hydor L35 pump...it's getting loud. Will have a eheim 1250 here tomorrow.

they say they warranty their 7800 series cards against bios flashes and overclocking but I dunno...of course the extra risk is greater than the performance increase but it's still kinda fun

I'm going to watch this and wait until there seems to be a standard, well-working bios and then I'm strapping on an 80mm fan and going to town!

Hmmm...it actually looks like a hardmod is needed? That's tougher....man I hate being held back and my card is still worth too much to be hardmodding it unless I see it as being safe.

I'd really like to hit near 10k in 3DMark05... at least 9300 or so... I'm at 8700 now

Yeah, I got sooo close to 9k in 05' with a single gtx KO @ 500/1350....about 8,9xx. Stock was around 8.5k+

Frackal,

Found a couple of good bios's...one of them sets the default clocks @ 500/1400.. and the vgpu @ 1.5v. Modding the gpu voltage in the bios will really only give you maybe 1.44 to 1.48v max(even set at 1.5v or 1.6v) but that's ok cause I don't wanna toast em'
I think 1400 is a little high though so I might change it to 1350 or 1375. I'll try it out and let you know how it does after the other gpu water block gets here(already have 1). I'll also have to mod it so the thing doesn't throttle when you disconnect the fan(you don't have to worry about that though cause it's a BFG) Just let me know if you want one.

Go ahead and overclock to the max without worrying about destroying the card. If something happens to the card as a result of your overclocking, you can simply return it for a new one. Yup, EVGA's lifetime Warranty INCLUDES any damage caused to the card as a result of overclocking, as explained by them over there at the EVGA forums ]

I don't think there's another company anywhere who offers lifetime warry which includes overclocking.

I'm curious to see what your results are Sentry2. I was under the impression that extra voltage could only be supplied via a voltmod. I really want to get over my plateau (520MHz) but from the looks of it you have to do some extensive mods to make the card run reliably at higher vcore. The actual voltmod looks pretty easy if you're good with a soldering iron but after talking with ViperJohn it looks like the part that supplies voltage needs some additional cooling as well as the gpu and memory.

Do you have any links to the new bios that increases vcore?

Are you doing this just for the sake of overclocking? Or do you run some games that need more power than a 490/1300 7800GTX? If its the latter, I would say to get a second KO and SLI them.

Well, mostly its for the fun of ocing. Farcry could definetely use some more gpu power but I don't have the money for another 7800GTX so ocing my current card is all I can think of for now.

Edit: Were you referring to the OP? Sorry for the reply if you were.
