With my new job I have a need for a good knife. Nothing big but something that will stay sharp.

Suggestions?

This is what I use at work all the time but I need it for specific jobs. The two blades are a good idea. What are you going to be using it for?

I use the Stanley folding box knife. The blades are replaceable and you can sharpen them.
Not good for prying things apart.

(Stanley part# 10-049)

I am thinking a one handed flip knife preferably with some sort of serrated edge near the bottom. Will be using it for a variety of.. utility purposes..

I"m biased towards Swiss Army Knives. They come in handy a lot. I personally have a Victorinox Trailmaster, and it's great for my work.

I would personally get a high carbon or a ceramic blade. They will stay sharper a lot longer, and they will take more sharpenings than a stainless steel. Personally, I use Buck knives the most. I do have a Case pocket knife, and its been pretty good.

High carbon - Brittle and rusts easily. Holds sharp edge.

Ceramic - Brittle as hell. Impossible to sharpen. Fun to look at, a real SOB to use everyday.

440A Stainless - Drawbacks - None.

Actually, stainless takes more sharpenings than carbon steel. High carbon steel blades chip the edge from use (Goes dull) Stainless rolls the edge. Carbon steel snaps if you bend it, where stainless bends.

I had a Schrade hunting knife made of 440 Stainless steel, and it lasted only a couple years before it didn't hold an edge. My Buck high carbon blade, however, I've sharpened twice a year, and gutted 11 deer with it, and no signs if being brittle. I don't know what the specs say, but personal experience would speak otherwise in my case.

Like, how pricey is that Kershaw knife you linked? That's the sweetest knife I've ever seen, it's rainbow colored without being gay.
