Need a good MIDI composer/converter

I need a good application that can convert a WAV or mp3 to MIDI.

I tried something called Anvil Studio, but the MIDI file that I got from converting a WAV file couldn't be played in my Sony Ericsson T630.

When I tried to import a MIDI file that came with the phone in Anvil, it said that it didn't support that fileformat, which made me think that it is the program that's failing.

Is there any good converters out there (for free), or did I do anything wrong?

(BTW, neither of the MIDI files were playable in Windows Media Player).

Update:
Tried to open the MIDI file imported from my phone in something called Sweet MIDI Player, but it said "Invalid MIDI file! Missing MTrk header." No idea what's wrong.

There isn't a quality way to blanket convert audio to midi. You could set something up that would work in some simple cases to some degree, but that's about it. Too many things go into a waveform to pick them out when the instrument's unknown, there's more than one note playing at a time, there's more than one kind of instrument. Kind of like being presented a recording of crowd noise and being asked to transcribe what each person is saying accurately. Might be able to pick out bits here and there, but that's about all.

Oh well, I found AmazingMIDI, which allows me to convert a WAV to a MIDI a can play in my phone (which is too old anyway, as it can't play mp3).

As you said, the result was not very good, but anyway...
