Yes, SC2 isn't that demanding, but looks great IMO.

I also play at 1920x1080 16xAF/0xAA Ultra Settings with a 5770@900/1300 + Q6600@3ghz, game runs awsome.

460 should run it flawlessly.

If this is all correct, then why do the reviews (in the links provided) show lower frame rates? Or do we not just notice them dipping below 60? I'll check fraps once I get my new card, just wondering for now.

If the budget is $200 strict, buy a GTX460 768mb. If it is a little flexible, go GTX460 1GB. If REALLY flexible (+-$150) buy a HD5870.

Lower compared to what? What types of games do you normally play? Something approaching 60 is necessary for an FPS, but for an RTS something a bit lower is not all that noticeable, to me anyway.

Well, the game makes my setup cry at 1920x1080. That's a Q9450@3.2GHz and a HD5850@850/1150. Can't run Ultra+AA, especially the last several missions (I'm at the very end). I could begging and mid-game though.

So if you want to max the game you will have to go higher than what I have. And don't look at the reviews showing 60FPS with just a bit less MIN. They're full of it.

That's all SP campaign. No idea about multi.

I've noticed the single player campaign is graphically more demanding than MP and most, if not all of the reviews out there were done using MP.

You want to max a game...that isn't even out yet? Riiiight.

As for SC2; a GTX460 works nicely with my friend. A 5830 also works for another but at 1680x1050. I'm sure SC2 wouldn't have too much of a problem.

Another friend plays at 1900x1200 with a 9800gt on ultra settings. He gets some lag as things load, but then it becomes smooth unless he is playing nexus wars.

For those that didn't catch the update, I got a 768mb Palit 460, then returned it and just ordered the factory OC 1gb Gigabyte 460: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125333

Why is SP more taxing than MP? MP has more stuff to render per screen I think, at least at compared to most SP missions.

Regarding maxing "a game that isn't out yet", we know D3 will be DX9 native and use the Havok engine and probably be a little more taxing than SC2, so we can make some good guesses, i.e. whatever can max SC2 will probably get close to maxing D3.

Going below 60 isn't going to make the game seem unbearably slow. Going below 30 does.

Some members have reported that some of the campaign scenarios (especially at the end) have lots of dynamic things that litter the screen like lava, zerglings, etc. I wouldn't know from experience, only from member postings here explaining the inevitable slowdowns near the end.

I suppose the blanket statement "MP is more taxing than SP" or "SP is more taxing than MP" is just bound to be wrong in several instances. To be sure, there probably will be instances in MP where it will be lighter than the heavy SP scenarios, and vice versa.

We can all make good guesses, but it's no guarantee, I suppose that's just what the other posters are trying to warn you about. Anybody here can give any advice about it, especially advice you would want to hear in the first place. For example, I honestly think a GTX 460 1GB will be fine. In fact, I think even something like a 5770 1GB will do, and I'd gladly offer this "guesstimation" if anybody asks. There is, however, no guarantee I will be correct, nor do I pretend to know for sure, so when Diablo III comes, and neither card does the job... well, it was just a guess

However, even at the risk of "guessing wrong", I still believe 460 1GB or even a mere 5770 1GB will be more than fine for gaming, since it has been "the Blizzard way" to make the game as accessible as possible to most people. There is a bit of doubt, given that you do have a high resolution. I am not too worried about guessing wrong though, after all, it is just a guess.

Yea that makes sense. Does anyone know how CPU limited SC2 is? For example, a stock i3-530 and a 1gb GTX 460 - which will be the bottleneck and by how much?
