I can't find any reference to this allowance in UK law, and as a former FFL and a soldier, that sounds crazy to me. Can you show me where this is allowed in law? I can't find any evidence of any UK .mil bringing their weapons home via google. Seeing as how a single pistol flown in from a foreign country required a full police escort, I don't see them allowing soldiers (who the UK public distrust and disrespect frequently) to take full automatic weapons to their homes. In fact it sounds like lunacy to allow soldiers to take sensitive items like that home with them. Particularly if you're at all familiar with how the US military handles weapons.
Did you read my previous post, the active parts are not in the weapon, it's kept separate at all times until assembly is required.
You know, you seem like a reasonable man and i think we got off on the wrong foot initially so for you i'll see what information i can find and present to you.
We are hardarses when it comes to weapons in the UK, except in some cases, this is one of those cases.
I can assure you that when i go home for Christmas, i will lock the active parts of my G3, my 870 and my P226 in the gun locker at home.
I think i did misspeak earlier though, privates are under command who are responsible for their weapons, those stay on base until it's needed that they do not.
There are no privates in my unit.
I am familiar with how the US mil handles weapons (i am on a US base right now) and i know full well what the protocol is. Not even small arms are allowed for anyone in the area unless otherwise commanded.
