Need a heatsink for a Celeron 566

My friend has an old Celeron 566 system with the ABIT BE6-II motherboard. The Golden Orb he has is really loud, and he wanted to get a quiet HSF to replace it. The problem is this motherboard is a slot 1 board, and his Celeron 566 is socket 370, which mean he has a socket 370 > slot 1 converters. The way the HSF is attached right now, it nearly hits the first DIMM slot, so this new HSF cannot be very big. Any suggestion is appreciated!

Best for that setup would be the Alpha PEP66, which was actually designed for slotket mounting.

Otherwise any low profile socket 370 heatsink would work, especially ones designed for 1U/2U rack mounting...

pretty much any low profile Socket 370 HSF (which are the most common HSF out there right now) should do it.

Can you name a few for example?

I second the Alpha PEP66, its perfect for your slotket setup. The PEP66 is not as tall as the Golden orb so there shouldn't be a problem of taking a DIMM slot. Get this sink and the AddA low speed fan, it will be almost zero noise (you won't hear it from a foot away). It will be safe the 566 puts out bearly any heat you could run the HS almost fanless so no worries.

A PEP66 would be good.

Or as GiZzO alluded to, a Celeron 566 is a pretty viable candidate for passive cooling. If you don't put a fan on the heatsink, that saves you 20 or 25mm. My recommendations for that would be a GlobalWin FDP-32 or FEP-32, but they take a little bit of work to get on an FCPGA processor.

The alpha66 will kill the first dimm slot on a BE6-II. It wont matter if your only using 2 sticks though.

The golden orb isnt that loud especially compared to a 1u/low profile heatsink fan. Now those little 60x60x10mm fans are really loud. Maybe the ideal solution is to get a low profile heatsink and match it with a quiet 60mm fan like the stealth fans. Whatever solution you choose, it will probabl run about $30.
I would just sell that cpu with the slotket and the golden orb and buy a retail p3 slot1 chip. It will probably overclock nicely, the stock fan is a quiet as it gets, and you get a performance boost for basically nothing.

the vantec copper heatsinks are kinda short too, find a quieter 60x60 replacement for em

It's not loud when it's clean. I spend about an hour cleaning the Golden Orb, and what a difference. It now sounds much better, I can actually hear the hard drive sometimes. I will consider those suggestion if in time there is a need for a replacement. Thanks for all the help!
