So I just got a great deal on the 4670k.
I am needing a motherboard now.
remaining budget is $262 and that needs to get me ram and a mobo that are decent enough.
I will be putting this into an antec 300 case with my 670gtx.

I want to push my 4670k up to about 4.2ish if possible so I got a thermalright true spirit 120m as it will fit well in my case.

I paired my 4670k with the Asus Hero.

I just upgraded to a 4770k and I almost got the Asus Hero Z87 board to go with it, until I re-adjusted my budget. I ended up with the MSI Z87-GD65 as it seems to have a similar feature set to the Asus board, but it was also on sale at the time. Now they're both within $10 of each other, I would have gone for the ASUS.

I am wondering if I really need a $200 mobo. For the most part I just want quality, stable, good OC. What does one get vs a $150 board.

I am thinking I might be limited to boards with a pci slot. My xtreme gamer x-fi is pci. So unless I want to stick to onboard sound I need PCI.

You could, actually. Nothing wrong with onboard audio, chips since the 883 have been more than satisfactory. you can grab (as i did) the MSI G43 which has the latest onboard, the ALC 1150, its cheap and works fine as a low end board. The OC options are plentiful too.

These all have the PCI I need

GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-D3H
Asrock Extreme4
Asus z87-A

So I guess I am between them.

I think the Gigabyte offers the most SATA 6Gb/s and the most USB 3.0 ports, but really you wouldn't go wrong with any of them.

They are really close. Flip a coin. I would probably get the Gigabyte, but that's because I am used to them and like them, not exactly an unbiased judgement.

The ASRock theoretically may have an edge in extreme overclocking due to having more power phases, but most people won't test the limits of either board.
