Hey all, I'm looking to replace my X370 Gaming K7 with an X470/X570 board that's more stable with 3rd gen Ryzen and has a better BIOS / software. The fan and RGB controls are just unusable - and this is the 2nd time I've had bad luck with Gigasuck, so it's the last.

Looking at either the Asus X470 Crosshair VII or X570 TUF boards. Wondering if there's something good MSI to be looking at as well in this price range, or what'd be the best between the two ASUS boards listed (or another good option). Only difference I can see is PCIe 4.0 which I think means nothing really, even though I do have a 5700XT.

That Asus board is a pricier X470 board, and I wouldn't personally pay that much for an X470 motherboard at this point.

The X570 TUF board seems to be an overall good board for the money, so I'd go that route in that price range. The Asrock X570 Extreme 4 would be another option in the $200 range.

Otherwise, I'd only get an X470 board if they were on sale, and were signifcantly cheaper. I grabbed the motherboard in my signature 6 months ago for $135 I believe, and I've seen boards like the X470 Taichi for $169 on Newegg recently. The Asus X470 Pro is currently $135 on Newegg.

the Asus x570 TUF boards are having issues with both ram and proper boost clocks as well as add-on sound cards.

The Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite is a decent board from what I read.

If I can get the X470 Crosshair for $140 does that put it in proper value?

My Aorus board has been such a headache, and the software is terrible. I know MB software usually isn’t great, but I should be able to control fans or RGB without crashing my system. Dealing with their support has been next to useless, it’ll be a hard sell for me to buy another one.

For $140 I would do it.

My ROG Strix X470 has been rock solid. My Asrock boards have as well.

I wouldn't touch Gigabyte for the foreseeable future as well. I dealt with fan issues myself on the last board I bought of theirs (Intel z170). Their software/BIOS side is......well this is the tech forums, so I'll just say "underwhelming".

Yeah their software is terrible, and BIOS is so buggy. My X370 gaming 7 soft bricks itself 3-4 times a week and I have to pull the CMOS battery to get it to boot since going 3rd gen. There’s a bunch of posts around about it early on and their support keeps telling me I need to reinstall Windows. My GB Z97 literally caught fire, and I swore them off back then but tried to give them another chance since it had the features, and the audio is really good on it (as good as my SoundBlaster Z card).

How’s ASROCK on support / warranty / RMA? I’ve got a Z370M PRO 4 in my NAS / server and it’s been solid.

I’ll probably give the CH7 a go, my Sabertooth Z97 was rock solid for 4-5 years. I’ve read a lot of complaints on the X570 fans being loud in general, but that could just be something about nothing. I don’t mind spending more on a X570, I just don’t see the benefit, especially if it’s not going to have as good of VRMs and components.

I wasn't concerned about any additional noise from the X570 chipset fan, my concern was being able to easily find a replacement when that little fan develops issues / dies. After thinking about what I wanted to do, I decided to go X470 based on the pricing. By the time PCIe 4.0 is really utilized, we'll likely be on to DDR5.

As far as Asrock support, I've never had any issues. I have two builds in the house with Asrock boards (Z270 Taichi and X370 PRO 4). The 2nd board is very much a low-end board, and it has handles a Ryzen 1700X for several years without missing a beat.

Strongly recommend buying a 500 series board since it was designed to be used with the 3rd gen Ryzen. The prices have dropped some which make it more appealing.

By the time PCIe 4.0 is really utilized, we'll likely be on to DDR5.
They are already selling M.2 drives that can use the extra bandwidth.

The BIOS on my GB B450 board is worse than the relatively simple but quite functional one on my GB Z68 board... it's awful. Oddly enough, I never could get the fans to work off the mobo on my Z68, I used the manual case fan controller all these years.

I originally had an ASRock B450 board, I really liked it, and I wish now I wouldn't have returned it for the GB board (I thought the Rock was bad, it was not.)

I did find an Aorus X570 Master for about $70 more than the CH7 I found which does seem like a good deal.... But it's Gigabyte again. I've read the X570 BIOS is much improved, but I'm still leery.

Once bitten twice shy or 3rd time's a charm?

Don't expect the BIOS to be any better...
That's what I am leaning towards as well... Looks like they just reorganized the BIOS and gave it a face-lift. And it looks like the same RGB Fusion crap software that I am dealing with now. Everytime I boot up or the software starts it completely resets every device on my SATA ports.

It does that to me, too. I don’t know if it’s every time, but I disable everything but the OS and CD drives.... and it just puts them all back in there when I check. 🙄
