I'm going to be running a..

AMD64 4400+ X2
Evga 7800GTX
Audigy 2 ZS Plat
2GB Corsair XMS
Asus A8N SLI Premium mobo

I made a thread for this a while back, but only got 2 suggestions, and then it got turned into an entirely different topic.

Anyhow, what would be a good PSU for me?

People recommened the Seasonic 12v 500W, but i get mixed reviews for it everywhere. The reviews on newegg werent very convincing either.

I'm using a 450w Antec with my X2 system, and it works great, I also like Enermax. Fortron and Seasonic are also good.

I suggest getting an Ultra Power supply. They're really really really shinyful and powerful. They're also completely silent. Also the 500Watt edition is on sale at various places right now. If you're thinking about getting it, it's called the: Ultra X-Connect power supply.

the seasonic s12-500 & 600 got very good reviews at SPCR. I have the s12-500, and it has been flawless for me. excellent in every respect, espcially how quiet it is & the efficiency across the board. I would definitely recommend the s12-500 for your prospective system.

Even Newegg states you shouldn't base your decisions on their reviews..seasonic makes very high quality PSU's.

If you can afford the $, take alook at PCPC.
Fortron, Enermax, Seasonics are good too.

Oh yeah right. Get something shiny, colorful and _looks_ powerful.
X-connect, Xazer, Aspire, Powmax are all terrible brands.

I wouldn't call a Seasonic "scrimping".

The Seasonic will be more than enough for his system, and quieter than a PCP&C to boot. Besides, even if he decides he values unused, unnecessary potential output more than low noise, a Zippy/emacs would still offer the same bang for less buck.

Actually being quiet is no issue anymore....
when I bought my PSU I was so amazed at how noisy it was; at first it was loud....
But after a few hrs everything calmed down so much I called the PCPC people..seems they are using an different fan and its alot more quiet.....
Just like the SPCR review of the Zalman 9500......sure its loud for the first 30-45 minutes then not a peep after that......
All SPCR did was install and test......right off the bat.....

Again...Im using the PCPC and noise is not an issue....in fact the only item I hear is my Thermaltake Smart Fan....
All my coolermaster fans as well as the zalman fans are dead silent!!

Take it from me noise is no issue anymore with the PCPC!!

No offense meant, but... I could take it from you, or I could take it from fairly recent tests done with my SPL meter.

- You are a forumgoer who is claiming that the PCP&C PSU gets quieter after less than an hour of operation, who thinks that a ThermalTake Smart Fan and CoolerMaster fan qualify as "dead silent," and who is naturally biased towards this unit by virtue of having bought it. (Nothing personal; this is always going to be a factor. FWIW, I use neither a PCP&C nor a Seasonic in my personal system.)
- My SPL meter is a tool specifically designed for measuring sound pressure levels. It has been calibrated recently.

First person to tell me what source is more reliable gets a cookie.

If you're curious, it's possible and likely that your ears adjusted to the PCP&C after a little while due to the brain's ability to raise its noise floor for a variety of reasons (there's a reason there's a "psycho" in psychoacoustics).

actually my source is more reliable since the coolermaster fans which I use are exactly as they are rated...they are as quiet as the most quiet fans!!
Also my source besides myself are people who also use the coolermaster fans and have used other fans as well!!
Bang for buck coolermaster fans are almost dead silent!!

Now to your SPL meter....
since you do not own and probably never have owned or will own a PCPC Turbo Cool 510 deluxe or any of there PSU`s you can feel free to fly catch a greyhound or anyways you like come on over and test my PSU with your meter...
Also I bought my PSU approx 3 months ago thus this developement with them changing the fans has taken place I am told within the last 4 or 5 months!!

Nowhere did I say the thermaltake Smart fan(thats a laugh) was dead silent...rofl..you obviously can`t read very well!!

here let me refresh your mrmory----Again...Im using the PCPC and noise is not an issue....in fact the only item I hear is my Thermaltake Smart Fan....
All my coolermaster fans as well as the zalman fans are dead silent!!

Which when cranked up can be a beast.....when toned down via speed fan controller is not too bad.

As usual you assume to much.....
I stated that I had called the PCPC people to confirm the reason my PSU was so quiet....
YES they do have vustomer service and YES I did order directly from them!
You also assume I don`t have SPL meter.....

Yet if you ask around about the coolermaster fans and the zalman fans you will find that its generally accepted that if you want a quiet system that the coolermaster fans and the zalman will do quite nicely!!

Anyway the offer still stand book a flight and come on out.....
And by the way no I am not curious......
After 8 years of college and too many years of being in the work force there not a whole lot somebody your age is going to be able to tell me.

So put your SPL meter away and calm down and try to comprehend and understand what you are reading.....lol

yes--I have heard good things about the seasonic and other PSU`s......but I will tell you when companies upgrade a fan or another part they don`t go out and recall or even upgrade in house products that have been assembled and ready for shipping.......

What I am saying is the PCPC did acknowledge a problem and they worked to correct the problem....

I place no credence in anything THD has to say even if its a good comment about anything I may like!!

Have a nice day!!

actually my source is more reliable since the coolermaster fans which I use are exactly as they are rated...they are as quiet as the most quiet fans!!
So since you use CoolerMaster brand fans, your ears must be better than my SPL meter? I'm afraid I don't follow you, here.

Nowhere did I say the thermaltake Smart fan(thats a laugh) was dead silent...rofl..you obviously can`t read very well!!

You're right, I misread that. My apologies.

Now to your SPL meter....
since you do not own and probably never have owned or will own a PCPC Turbo Cool 510 deluxe or any of there PSU`s you can feel free to fly catch a greyhound or anyways you like come on over and test my PSU with your meter...
While I don't have one in my personal system, I _have_ put the 510 in several customers' systems by request, and have begun using my SPL meter to test the noise level of each "loud" component I put in systems recently. This is for two reasons: one, I wish to give customers a quantitative measurement of how loud some parts are; two, I think it would be neat to have a small catalog of noise levels for each part, because as it is measurements are widely scattered and done with many different testing materials.

I'm sure you didn't need to know all that, but there you go.

As usual you assume to much.....
I stated that I had called the PCPC people to confirm the reason my PSU was so quiet....
YES they do have vustomer service and YES I did order directly from them!
Well, of COURSE PCP&C is going to feed you a line about caring about the quality and noise level of their PSUs. Seasonic will do that, too. So will OCZ, and I wouldn't be surprised if some American reseller of Powmax did it too.

yes--I have heard good things about the seasonic and other PSU`s......but I will tell you when companies upgrade a fan or another part they don`t go out and recall or even upgrade in house products that have been assembled and ready for shipping.......
Many manufacturers do retrofit units that haven't been shipped yet, actually, and PCP&C do not recall parts in the market to fit new fans.

You also assume I don`t have SPL meter.....
You're right, I do assume that. May I ask how my assumption is relevant?

What I am saying is the PCPC did acknowledge a problem and they worked to correct the problem....
Also I bought my PSU approx 3 months ago thus this developement with them changing the fans has taken place I am told within the last 4 or 5 months!!
My last measurement was just over three months ago, so if they are correct then it should still be valid. I noticed no difference in SPL between it and older units, iirc.

Anyway the offer still stand book a flight and come on out.....
And by the way no I am not curious......
After 8 years of college and too many years of being in the work force there not a whole lot somebody your age is going to be able to tell me.
Didn't your offer involve a Greyhound? Although I'd say there's a good chance that I'm older than you, I don't see how this is relevant in any way; you should evaluate an argument on its own merits rather than evaluating or attacking the person making it. This is called an ad hominem, and is one type of logical fallacy. Please don't use it.

So put your SPL meter away and calm down and try to comprehend and understand what you are reading.....lol
I assure you I can understand what you are saying perfectly well. I'm not inclined to "put my SPL meter away" when attempting to measure sound pressure levels, as I would then have to rely on an inferior instrument prone to automatically re-calibrating itself (my ears).

Also my source besides myself are people who also use the coolermaster fans and have used other fans as well!!
Bang for buck coolermaster fans are almost dead silent!!
Yet if you ask around about the coolermaster fans and the zalman fans you will find that its generally accepted that if you want a quiet system that the coolermaster fans and the zalman will do quite nicely!!
This really isn't relevant. If you want to get into a discussion about your fan choices, it can happen another time, when it will not derail this thread. If you really want to, you can send me a PM about it.

I place no credence in anything THD has to say even if its a good comment about anything I may like!!
If by THD you mean THG, then there's something we can easily agree on. THG is easily the least reliable major hardware review site out there.
