Need a new router, want to use dd-wrt

So i'm out looking for a new router, i want it to work with dd-wrt
it needs to be able to take a PPPoE connection and have wireless G ....

Its going to connected to my DGS - 2205 gigi switch
and wirelessly to my Macbook

thats about it, just tired of my Dlink di-624

Is there a reason for the extra random switch? Why not just buy an all-in-one wireless router that has gigabit speeds?

well my old router didn't have a gibabit switch built in so i got this for 15$ when a computer store here was closing

Just an FYI, a separate gigabit switch and a good router is better and cheaper than a router with built-in gigabit switch. It's what I personally use and recommend to everybody else as well.

AFAIK the least expensive Wireless Router that can do DD -WRT

It goes for about $50.

Well, technically, but not in all cases. It really depends on what you are looking for.

If you're looking to go Draft N, then you're looking at $90 to $100 for cheap Trendnet stuff. You can easily push that price up to about $140 if you want to go with brands such as Linksys, D-Link or Netgear.

On the other hand, you can get the DIR-655 which has gigabit for $116 or even a Trendnet one for $100 and you won't have to have two devices and their power supplies and the slower 10/100 ports won't bottleneck your speeds. And yes, I do get better than 100Mb speeds on my wireless network.


But in the op's case since he wants 11g, then yeah.

Another thumbs up on this. I have a Linksys SRW2016 10/100/1000 16 port managed switch. Not bad considering I got it at $140 about a year ago.

I'm still standing by my original statement that a separate gig switch is better & cheaper than an all-in-one wifi router with gigabit built in. I'm definitely not one that's jumping on the Draft-N/Pre-N wagon. It's all marketing hype to me to sell more products.

On my system if the 100Mb/sec. components are connected to the Router's switch, and the Giga capable computers are plugged on their own, local Giga traffic works better.
