Need a printer

The proposal deadline for grants given by the school is coming up and our school newspaper is looking to get a new printer and I needed some input since, although i'm not too stupid when it comes to computers, i'm a 'tard when it comes to printers. Anyways, i need something that's fairly fast (i think its about 5000 pages per issue assuming 500 subscriptions and 10 pages each...) so that the print department of the newspaper doesn't have a great urge to lynch technology. Now again, when it comes to printing i'm st00pid so i don't know 5 ppm from 30 so use your own discretion. it has to print tabloid (11x17) and the front page and front page of sports are in color so probably a color laserjet? Also need something durable (20k pp a month about). as for cost, its the school that's paying for it so just try keeping it cheap

• fast enough to print 5k pages and still allow someone to organize them in a night

First off, when you start talking COLOR laserjet and fairly high speed and volume, you can pretty much throw the word cheap out of the window.

My suggestions would be to stick with HP, if you are wanting just a basic laserjet color printer, but if you want something with more functions than just printer, you might want to consider a Ricoh, but like I say get ready to pull out the big bucks.

P. S. - A good place to start your search for this would be pricewatch.com, but if you get into a very high end printing situation, you may want to buy from a local dealer which can provide you with timely service/maintenance.

I knew what i was looking for was adding up but when i said cheap i mean i don't want that $7000 beast or something like that. I guess looking for the printer right now is pointless without some idea of what we can get for funding. time to talk with Editor-in-Chief i guess :/

If anyone else has suggestions that would be great, right now I've found one at 20-some-odd ppm at $3500 straight from HP (right now I'm just trying to make a list of possible printers) but if anyone knows of any better values it would be greatly appreciated.
