I am so dissapointed to hear about the durability issues with the slimline, I really hope mine doesn't break, that is all I need, a dissappointed four year old and a broken $150 game console! BTW, if you have consoles available in your area, jump on e-bay, because right now consoles are sold out all over CA, Europe, and most of the rest of the USA. I checked with most stores in my area before I finally got lucky with mine, the stores included:
Blockbuster
Target
Wal-Mart
Best Buy
K-Mart
CompUSA
and
Circuit City
Most of the store employees laughed at me for even asking because they figured everyone knew about the shortage already.
One Target did have Nintendo DS when I walked in, and they had them behind the counter and the store employee told me I should buy it and trade it for the PS2 online...
Anyway, interested to know, any durability issues with the GameBoy Advance SP or the Nintendo DS? I have the old Gameboy Advance for my son because he is rough on things, but I would like the backlit one so he could see it at night in my car without fighting over turning on the overhead light, lol! (And, yes, I have the little front clip on lite, but my son won't leave it on the front of the gameboy!!).

One more thing....
Anybody get an Eyetoy yet?? I was checking them out at Blockbuster last night, looks like a nice thing to get kids off the couch, but I want to hear a consumer review or two first.
Thanks!!!

I would still to this day rather load up any old N64 game than even consider playing anything on the PS2. In LA there's a lack of xboxs, ZERO DSs' and plenty of PS2s

luckily my xbox can play just about anything. but I still find myself playing mario on it the most-

Not to mention the PS2 is always the last to drop in price. Ohwell i cant see the point in buying a ps2 but im sure i will get yelled at for this.

And to stay on topic i have seen mountains of consoles at all of our local stores. Only thing we seem to be lacking is the DS. On a side note i cant see why anyone would buy a $150 hand held.

If it really disappoints you to see large consumer demand for a company's product that you happen to dislike, then you might want to readjust your life priorities. This thread is meant to help those who are trying to find a PS2, not those trying to decide between consoles.

That aside, there are a few people out there who enjoy playing Sony-exclusive games and playing games like San Andreas and don't feel like waiting a year for it to come out on another system. There are those same types of people who enjoy Halo 2/Mario/Zelda, etc for other systems. Believe it or not, there are a lot of gamers out there who prefer great gameplay over great graphics, and for some of those people, PS2 satisfies their needs.

Controller-wise, PS2 controllers are widely regarded as the most "ergonomically-sound" OEM controllers of the three systems, but they may not fit everyone's taste. XBox controllers have scored low marks for comfort and ergonomics by many gaming publications, but many people, especially those with bigger hands, love them. To each his own.

Wow, these stories about the new PSTwo being of inferior build quality are really disappointing. I remember the issue with the original PS2, and that was one time when it was good to purchase the extended replacement warranty from the store when buying one. I know someone that swapped their PS2 twice beause the laser died on them. They really are pieces of junk, build-wise. I have tons of older CD-based consoles myself, that still work perfectly. (TurboDuo, 3DO, Saturn, JagCD, etc.)

I had so wanted to get one of the new PSTwo models too, the older ones were kinda huge.. although you could stack the PSX on top of the PS2 if you wanted to.

The new PS2's also have a 1-year factory warranty, which might help decide a purchase. I guess I've always gotten lucky with my PlayStations. I purchased a PS1 on launch day and it still works flawlessly to this day, and I did the same with PS2 and it worked flawlessly until I recently traded it in for a mini-PS2. But I have heard the horror stories like everyone else.

I have an original Nintendo with 20 games in my son's room, he had to learn those games before I would buy him anything else. He also has the Namco Museum on his Gameboy, nothing has ever beat PacMan in my mind!! But, some of the newer games were looking enticing, such as the Incredibles (anyone find that for a good price?).

In regards to your gameboy inquiry, The Nintendo DS is not at all a fragile system.
The Gameboy SP is also a very sturdy little console, but the DS is backwards compatible with the GBA games so you get a two for 1.
The Nintendo DS, I can tell you has outstanding replay value due in a huge part to the touch screen which makes you really feel as if you are entirely in control while playing most games. I personally have Mario DS which is tons of fun. Feel the Magic that I use to practice my dating skills, by removing scorpions off of my gf's back so that she likes me!
A import Japanese game named Chokkan Hitofude (a puzzle game) -very addictive-
And last I bought Ridge Racer DS.. I play with 4 other people with only 1 game and we all get to race together at the same time. The Nintendo DS is definatly a toy for one with friends to fully take advantage of its communication capabilities.

That's my 2 cents on the DS. and by the way, those things sold faster than fast on EBAY. I personally sold 10 on ebay and also got 4 of my friends to buy one including my gf. She's all into Mario DS right now.
Tons of fun!
