I don't know if you consider this hot, but here it is. PS2 is sold out everywhere, and yet, there is still one way to get one. I went to CC and paid $30 two days ago to get on their waiting list. I went in yesterday and asked them if my PS2 had arrived, and they bumped me to the top of the list and gave me one. Apparently they are doing it first come first serve after you get on the waiting list (of course a little charm and persuasion never hurt). Good Luck!

Oh man... you sure are a great mother. I believe you are referring to the slim line PS2? PS3 is still a ways away. I actually held out on buying the PS-2 until earlier this year for Grand Turismo 4. But the bastards already pushed it back a full year...

The normal ps2s are actually getting quite rare. Not to mention, that alot of the add-ons won't work with the small one. I've seen slims in a good amount of places in nyc.

PS3 Spring/Summer '06 is the current estimate. XBOX2 fall/winter '05.

Probably all the consoles are in big demand. I overheard a man asking about Xbox consoles at Target the other night and they were out.

thats wierd...PS2's are available everywhere where I am located . I have both , the slim line and older version( last years). Personally I would take the older PS2( hardrive capable) over the new slim line PS2. The new ones are cheaply made and if you are a modder, make sure that you put the laser diode mod in otherwise your laser will die early.

They are popular, yes, but the reason they are sold out, is because Sony is now offering a no questions asked return policy. They have major issues with their lasers that are in the units, and they are failing at a huge rate. They are having so many issues with them, that our local Game Xchange, and Game Stop, aren't taking them on trade, and EB will trade for them, but they test them for 3 days before issuing a credit. G4tv stated the other day that the failure rate on the new PStwo has reached 55%, per Sony, and they are exchanging them for the older style PS2, hence the reason they are sold out everywhere. I have 2 PS2's that have failed due to the laser failing, and my fiance's brothers just failed yesterday. These units are less than 6 months old.

It really disapoints me to see PS2 still racking in this many sales for their console. Im more of a die hard PC guy myself but i do have a modded xbox and a free gamecube. And 2 of my friends both have ps2s one a slim line and one regular and in my opinion the controlers feel like crap just really cheap and uncomfortable, the graphics for games that are on all 4 consoles always look worst on the ps2. Not to mention the PS2 is always the last to drop in price. Ohwell i cant see the point in buying a ps2 but im sure i will get yelled at for this.

And to stay on topic i have seen mountains of consoles at all of our local stores. Only thing we seem to be lacking is the DS. On a side note i cant see why anyone would buy a $150 hand held.

Are you crazy? The new one is WAY better quality than the old one! I went through THREE of the old POS PS2

any links to news about Sony's return policy? Or a link to that G4tv episdose (or any other article discussing quality problems with the PS2)

I heard the PStwo comes with a 90 day warranty

Nope, it's pretty much proven that the new one dies much quicker and is of cheaper build quality.

I actually got an older model PS2 at a yard sale about 3 months ago for $10.00! It came with 2 controllers also. The lady was selling games for $2.00 each to go with it. bought 4 of em. I found out that the games even though new they were pretty scratched up to the point of not working. I found a place that sands them down so they work like new again for $1.50 a disk. ( I have the person's email if anyone needs it) So all in all not an expensive Christmas for me.
