Need a quieter replacement fan for my Globalwin FOP38 heatsink

Been using this globalwin HSF for about a yearnow, normally the noise doesn't bother me. In my new house, for some reason, it seems louder, so I'd like to replace it if at all possible. I use my computer to watch TV from bed, and in order for me to hear it over the fan, I have to turn the speakers up loud enough that i'm afraid of waking my roomates. I'm looking for something similar in cooling preformance, but as quiet as possible. I could replace the entire HSF as well, so shoot some suggestions my way. I'm on a college budget, so it can't be too expensive either (under $50). Thanks !

Any noise improvement on the current heatsink will likely come at the cost of lower airflow and higher temps. You can try a 60mm to 80mm adapter if you have the room, but really you should look into a newer style heatsink. Especially true if you plan to upgrade your system anytime in the future, as the FOP won't hack it. Look into an 80mm based fan, such as the Thermalright AX7, with a decent mid to low speed fan.

I have an Evercool CUD-725 copper heatsink/fan combo. Is similar to a copper Vantec HSF. Fan puts out 42 CFM at only 32 dba (very quiet). Max temp at load on an Athlon XP 1800+ is 43C. $17.99 at www.nexfan.com.

Just replace the fan on it with a 4200rpm one and turn it into a FOP-32.
