I don't believe that is true. If so this is the first time of being a layer1/cabling nazi that I've heard of it after deploying 1000s of miles of category rated cable.

There is no difference depending on case....all that matters is the link/channel passed the tests set forth by EIA/TIA.

Again, I'm not trying to be rude but the nonsense on that post is really mind blowing.

Basically category rating says "pass these tests and you get category X", those tests/baselines are set by EIA/TIA...don't pass these test, don't get the rating.

There is a minute amount of truth to that post.....lots of manufacturers say "scanned to 350 Mhz", ala berktek 350 (cat 5 cable made back in the mid 90s that will if properly installed pass cat5e specs).

The thing is Ethernet depends on a certain kind of cable and the entire protocol is built upon these tests. The category rating.

"Marketing at its finest" (That is to say: Total, complete, utter BS).

According to Anixter's technical support folks (some old RCDD pals o' mine), there is no difference between a "5E" and a "5e." The transmission specification between EIA/TIA 568a and 568b (the standard, not the pinout) makes no distinction whatsoever (i.e., there is no difference in the cable spec for 5e (-or 5E-) .... both are the same).

Next we'll be killing rumors regarding the "Augmented Cat 6" specs ....
