Need a recommendation for a SCSI card...

I have six 10GB SCSI drives. They are all the newer style small connector (as opposed to the connector that looks like a wide IDE cable). I haven't messed with SCSI much but I think they are UW SCSI. Not certain though.

I suppose I would like to have some RAID-5 action going on, but my primary concerns are stability and price. I'll take a look at RAID sometime down the road unless there are some stable and cheap RAID solutions.

Thanks in advance.

Any idea what kind of drives they are? As in model/brand. My recommendation for a SCSI card would depend on the potential combined speed of all 6 drives.

Unless he has a motherboard that uses 66mhz/64 bit PCI slots/PCI-X, it won't matter too much, because the PCI bus will get saturated.

The RAID card I have is the LSI Logic 1600 MegaRAID Elite. It cost me about $200 on e-bay for a used one.

Those are probably 9 gig drives, and in raid 5, that will give you probably 40 gig. The controller and cables will cost a few hundred, not to mention, you need to find a case to put 6 drives in. I have a controller left over from my quest for the same (5x18 gig drives) but it won;t boot. I can create arrays, but not boot !! I would sell it, but I think it requires an Intel chipset, maybe even a server chipset, so who would buy it ($50 takes it !!) I don;t want to screw somebody on my folly (Intel SRCU21 controller)

Bottom line is, expect to pay, and don;t think it will be easy either.

I too have an LSI MegaRAID, actually two of them in my supermicro mobo.. I use 1 card for 4 drive mirror another card for raid 5 striping. Good thing is there are two channels, I mirror drive 0 & 1 in channel 1 to drive 0 & 1 in channel 2 and my other card does raid 5 with 4 drive. Its a really nice card, easy to use.. like it better than a stand alone scsi card..
