Should I be looking at D-Link, Linksys, Netgear?

That's a good price for the DIR-655. It's a very popular router, based on the successful lineage of the DGL-4300, with updated underlying hardware. The feature set on these routers is also richer than most consumer ones, esp. some Netgear ones. Of course third-party firmware such as DD-WRT is still richer, and of course there are many other Ubicom-based routers these days which would be similar, in part because of the popularity and success of the DGL-4300 line.

If you want a working solution on budget with a built-in gigabit switch and feature set which is probably more than good enough, the DIR-655 is a good bet.

Well that's the one I went with. Fry's had them on sale for $99 (from $139) so it was cheaper than newegg + shipping. It does have QoS. My current home setup is fairly simple (1 desktop wired, 1 laptop & two PDAs all with 802.11b & no VOIP, BT, or much online gaming. I do expect to replace the laptop in another year and I'm considering building an HTPC so I wanted the faster capabilities.
