I am looking for something so when I drop a file into a folder it automatically also copies it to a folder on my external harddrive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You could use a simple batch file called by Taskscheduler to do it periodically, once an hour, once a day, etc.

Name it makecopy.bat or something. Only one line is needed.

copy /y c:\(foldername)\*.* e:\ (foldername)

The only downside here is that it will recopy everything every time. The y switch eliminates the overwrite prompt.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but I haven't seen an app like you want (dosen't mean there isn't one). I suppose you could write a script to do it.

Why not just create a shortcut to that folder and drag the file into the shortcut icon?

It is close though. Yea I can't copy the entire thing the folder is 54 gigs.

The shortcut idea is fine but I want automated.

It sounds like what you are asking for is to sync your working folder with a backup folder and you have two ways to do this. You could use a little freeware app called syncback that will sync the two folders and only copy the changes at a scheduled time. You could also write a robocopy script to do the same thing, the only thing is that I know of no free way to do a real time copy (you copy a file to c:\docs and it automgically copies to e:\docs too) so you are stuck with scheduled intervals in either case.
