i think its stupid to kill snakes that live around the house. I do understand why people are afraid of them.

It just doesn't happen that way. You may be able to find a few isolated cases of people being bitten unexpectedly. For each unexpected bite, there are probably 1,000 bites where the snake was being handled or someone was attempting to kill or capture the snake. The snake wants to live and wouldn't normally confront or bite something it didn't intend to eat. It would only bite if it had no other choice.

uhuh... is that what a lizard does too? Thousands of bites from lizards? How can you compare the two?

As for why people are scared of them, it's because they don't separate the types of snakes... obviously we know some snakes are venomous so they associate all of them to be the same. The thought that they're aggressive just the same is there too. And we're not all experts on what's what - I mean look at what a small spider like a brown recluse can do. I wouldn't call it an unfound concern.

Yes. I've been bitten by non-poisonous lizards countless times. When I was a child, my friends and I used to let them dangle from our ears and fingers for fun.

A lizard has never bitten me by surprise and would always try to run away. In that regard, it's no different from a non-poisonous snake. If I did try to handle a non-poisonous snake and got bit, it might be a bit more painful. There's probably some risk of getting a tetanus infection. That's about it.

Found one under a board I lifted up near my motorcycle a couple days ago. It was much smaller and tried to get away but got stuck trying to go over a plastic tarp that was too slippery. I was working and had plenty of tools I could kill it with but I deliberately let it get away. It was terrified of me and wanted nothing more than to get away. No clue why anyone would kill it.

I don't know if all snakes are like this but one thing I noticed is when you handle a gardner snake your hands stink after. They are fun to hold though but they DO bite! Not poisonous or anything, but those tiny little teeth can still leave a half decent mark in the skin. But normally they stay calm and just wrap themselves around your arm or neck. Sudden movements usually is what startles them.

I think it's pretty shitty that you killed it out of fear (ignorance).

He can't even take a proper picture. He probably has bigger problems, like being retarded.

Worse than that... retarded in Michigan! D:

No need to pile on, I know, but I had tons of fun catching and keeping these little garter snakes, then letting them go, when I was a kid. Hell, in that last pic it looks like it could have been a worm.

OP now has to worry about the dead snakes mom and ten dads (garters have 10 dads of course) and each of his brothers from the ten dads and sisters and uncles and stuff, all of them are pissed at OP now planning their retribution. OP will wake up with them all on him one night and die from heart attack probably.
