now that i think of it, i should have gotten that X650 when it was in stock.

you have no idea how much i hate newegg - the only reason i buy from them is because i usually get the stuff next day since their warehouse is not far from where i live. i would use Amazon over newegg every time except that when i order from Amazon it takes a week to deliver and they charge a tax.

but why do they offer these low prices if they know they don't have the stock to back up the demand ? just to p1ss people off so they can go see the low price and read "out of stock" ?

i know you will say it's my fault that i didn't just get it yesterday ... but why should i buy something when newegg is inclined to offer it ? i want to buy stuff when *I* want to buy it. dealing with newegg feels like being back in the Soviet Union where you can buy butter only if you happen to be in the right place at the right time.

horrible, horrible company - i don't understand why it is still in business. i hate myself every time i order anything from them.

Not intending to be bothersome or anything, just curious. whats bad about newegg? i havn't used them in the last few yrs because i havn't needed to order anything period, but befor that they always seemed really good to me? ...besides what you already mentioned about you not liking there advertized prices sometimes.

an just my 2c on the subject.. but IMO for specific hardware like your subject if it were me, i wouldnt be too conserned about prices to a reasonable extent, specialty items are always going to be more... unless your willing to mod them yourself.

no it's just that pricing thing. i had the same problem trying to hunt down a GTX 670 - it was about $100 less on Newegg than anywhere else, but of course it was out of stock. Amazon had it in stock but for $100 more. I ended up waiting until it was in stock on Newegg but i would much rather have a choice to pay the high price or not to pay it - with Newegg you get no choice - it's out of stock and that's it.

i believe in free markets and i like to see the price reflect demand instead of in-demand items simply disappearing from the shelves as it happens under communism ... and on newegg.

but don't worry i hate Amazon too ! in case of Amazon you can never find anything on their website because their search doesn't work - and it has never worked ever and probably never will work - just like Newegg will never have anything in stock. if you want to find something on Amazon you have to go to Google and search from there, and if you want to buy something on Newegg you just have to buy it on Amazon.

WHY ???

and of course Apple and Google do the same thing - iPhone 5 was sold out for months, and now Nexus 4 is hopelessly sold out. i don't get it - why not just raise the price until demand and supply meet each other ? what's the point of giving stuff away below market value only to run out of stock within hours of launch and remain out of stock for months ?

i know some people enjoy the rat race to catch something on sale - they find it exciting - i find it a waste of life.

as Nietzsche said - it is not the suffering that is unbearable, but the senselessness of it ...

dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb communist c4ap everywhere - makes me want to stop the planet and get off !

Uhhh. 860W power supply? Why? I'm really confused now, what makes you think you'll EVER use anywhere near as much power to benefit from that? Seasonic 660W Platinum would've cost you only $145 AR shipped.

In any case you should've jumped on the X650 deal when it was still available. Would've saved you $110

yes i should have.

as for the 860W platinum, i never claimed that my decisions or actions make sense !

i don't believe logic can be applied to life. logic is about solving problems. life is about creating problems. when you try applying logic to life you get suicide, genocide, communism etc. it's missing the point

that said, i wanted to buy from Amazon and i couldn't find anything else on there. the 660W platinum you mention is $170 on Amazon. the X650 is $160. the 860W is a little more, but has the sexy mesh cables i wanted.

by the way just before i ordered i plugged in my computer through the Kill-A-Watt and measured its draw under different scenarios:

Windows Idle - 55W
Recording Audio in Adobe Audition - 65W
Checking out 3D buildings in Manhattan in Google Earth - 95W

so this PSU has to be silent while the system pulls 65W from the outlet, which considering efficiency of Enermax probably translates to about 50W load ( and 15W dissipated in the PSU ).

50W load on 860W PSU is a 6% load. according to Anandtech review at 6% the platinum will be 80% efficient, so it will need to dissipate 10 watts passively.

but as i said i wanted a model with the fan switch, so i would actually let the fan run at all times except when noise is critical.

that's of course assuming it doesn't whine - in which case i would probably need to return it.

In order for that viewpoint to make any sense, you'd have to use logic to show it is so.

This is the most absurd and misinformed thing I've ever read.

Uh-uh. Why didn't you mention earlier that you wanted to buy from Amazon? Would've saved us both a lot of time. This thread feels like a waste of mine, sorry to say...

because i only decided that after i heard about the whine issue, and Amazon has the best return policy.

Well dude, you did get one thing right. I don't think anyone can beat Amazon's return policy. As for the rest, I think you came in here just to argue.

Yeah, this thread was pretty much "suggest things to me so that I can belittle them, and go out and buy a massively oversized PSU that doesn't even meet my original criteria".

I wish there were higher quality low power silent designs like the stryker, but as far as I know, it's the only one available that's both fanless and great for power delivery.

I like my fanless seasonics 400 watt size they can run 24/7 with a hd7970 and a hd3770k for months.

lite oc for the ram the cpu and the gpu.

Surprisingly I half agree with you. While I have no problems finding what I want on Amazon, their search often brings up plenty of stuff that is not what you want. Also, their sorting is and has always been broken.

But I still find what I am looking for.

and of course Apple and Google do the same thing - iPhone 5 was sold out for months, and now Nexus 4 is hopelessly sold out. i don't get it - why not just raise the price until demand and supply meet each other ? what's the point of giving stuff away below market value only to run out of stock within hours of launch and remain out of stock for months ?

There are a number of potential reasons for that.

1) Demand may have been underestimated.

2) Supply may have been overestimated.

3) Manufacturers set an MSRP. Some retailers sell above MSRP and then they get bad press for price gouging. It has been ongoing for years and people complain about it.

4) Manufacturers love to have huge sale numbers. It helps them with the board of directors and stockholders.

5) If MSRP starts high on high demand items and then soon after drops down, people will complain and the manufacturer gets bad press.

Really, they can't win. Price high as a "natural" counter to initial demand? Consumers will complain about price gouging. Drop MSRP after initial high demand? Consumers will complain about unfair pricing. Leave prices low and sell out? g1981c will complain about communists.

i don't believe logic can be applied to myself.

Fixed. :awe:

This might be too late, and it might not be helpful in your case, but I figured I ought to throw it out there.

For recording studios where a clean baseline sound floor is important, you can spend all you want at silencing your computer only to identify the next loudest component. If I were you, I would consider long cables between your machine and your peripherals, and then placing the machine in a separate room entirely.

The road towards a silent computer is long and serpentine, and may not even have an end.

i don't see it as an all or nothing proposition. making incremental but meaningful improvements is fine by me in this particular case.

i did consider other possibilities, such as getting a flash memory recorder to use instead of computer ... but for some reason i decided i liked the idea of lowering computer noise better. i don't need to silence it completely for my use - jut get it really quiet.

X750 Gold 3rd generation for $89.99 AR - AC - FS - Newegg. Today only.

i tried cancelling amazon order but it said it was unable to cancel it ...

ordered the X750 from newegg anyway

Amazon one had tax on it for total of $217.

Newegg one before rebate was total of $104 ...

that's a big difference ...

i guess if newegg comes before amazon ( newegg is closer to me ) i might try to test it real quick, and if it works simply refuse the amazon package.

either way i'll keep you guys updated ...

Wait, I thought newegg was a horrible, horrible company? And why wouldn't an x750 work? The x650 would be more than enough already...

That X750 is a great deal. I bought my X560 from Amazon a year ago and it was $129.99 then. That model never seems to go on sale. All these Newegg sales for the X650 and X750 would make me envious if the X560 wasn't doing such a fine job for me. I don't have any experience with other SeaSonic X Series models, but I can say that mine is completely silent in any load my Phenom II X4 @ 4.0 Ghz and single GTX 670 can throw at it. I have never heart the unit's fan over the very quiet Scythe fans in my case (and certainly no coil whine). Prior to the X560 I've used Antec and PC Power and Cooling power supplies and they were all audible at some point. The SeaSonic has never been. Great, quiet power supply.

O.P., as far as the Amazon delivery goes just be sure to catch the UPS or FedEx guy and refuse delivery. They should credit you in a couple weeks at most.

i have a 1000W PC Power and it just sounds horrible - very loud, and very unpleasant noise
