Initially when I built this 'puter I installed one HD, a WD 500GB, then I added a Intel 330 SSD 180GB and did the Transfer of OS fm the WD to the Intel SSD HD [so it became my "C" Drive].
I have kept all BIG Programs such as Games etc. on the "F" WD 500GB Drive and it now has 275GB's FREE.......BUT.....here is my "problem" my "C" SSD Drive only has 15GB FREE out of 167GB useable of the 180GB HD.
WHAT TO DO - that is the question?
Yesterday I started looking on line at prices of larger SSD HDs to replace my present "C" Drive.....or.......could I transfer everything on "C" onto "F" Drive - it appears that then I would have 123GB still FREE on F which would now have the OS on it and I believe would now be seen as "C" Drive. The Intel SSD 180GB [167GB useable] would I think become "F" Drive and I could transfer things back to it.
I am running W'7 64bit.....been reluctant to take the chance of upgrade to W10 and think the way things are now on this 'puter it would be a DISASTER trying to do MS's Upgrade to W10 ........... BUT another option and clean start would be to buy W10 Home Ed. and do a CLEAN install and start over...........I saw one price for a 300 GB Intel SSD for $199....at that price I could buy and install W10 and have both my HD's Spiffy clean like new.
Please share any and all constructive advice and.........
THANKS, michael:\

If you have Win 7 now, just do a upgrade or clean install of Windows 10. You can go either route with your Windows key. I would just upgrade it, use Window 10 reset this PC, and then delete Windows.old in the free up disk space in the control panel.

I personally would just get catch a good deal on a 500 GB+- SSD for $100-$120 and call it a day. Just get one that comes with free cloning software. That 180 GB Intel drive will be much slower than modern SSDs anyways.

You might be surprised. Newer cheap SSDs are TLC. That 180GB Intel is MLC with a SandForce controller. Newer SSDs, unless you get a "Pro" or "Performance" one, will likely be slower.

Some are TLC, but there are MLC drives like some PNY or Samsung drives. However, I have a Samsung 850 EVO (TLC) in one computer and the PNY (MLC) in another, and they are both pretty close in performance. A person can find Intel 535 drives on sale most of the time because they haven't really changed much for several years. I would personally take a 850 EVO over an Intel 53x series drive.

Old Intel drives were renowned for their reliability over many of the early drives. However, at this stage TLC drives (even budget ones like Sandisk, Micron, etc) are pretty reliable and are about as fast as SATA3 can provide. However, any SSD is an improvement over tradional drives.

Now the Intel 750 series or Samsung 950 Pro are where the real speed is at if you have the $$$.

Hi

As the guys suggested, you can both do an upgrade or perform a fresh clean install of the new OS if you want to upgrade. Have in mind that doing a fresh install would require you to format your existing boot (or C) partition and thus losing everything from it. It would also require you to reinstall all your applications and games so I would strongly recommend having a full backup of your data before proceeding with any of the available options.

If you are simply looking to expand your storage space you should have no problems adding more drives (HDD or SSD) to your system without modifying your OS at all You would simply have to plug the new drive to an available SATA port and a power cable while the system is off, boot your system and configure the new drive in Disk Management by initializing it and then partitioning and formatting it. Then you are free to move around your data between the three drives.
