I'm putting together a computer that's DX10 ready and will be able to game in 1900xwhatever resolution for a 24" monitor.

So heres what I've got so far:

Lian Li PC 7b - 79.99$
eVGA Geforce 8800GTX - 649.99$
Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty - 145.99$
OCZ GameXStream 700W PS - 144.99$
Corsair XMS2 2GB - 300.00$
Asus P5B Deluxe/WiFi Mobo - 209.99$
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - 308.00$

So far that's 1,838$. I still need a hard drive, dvd-burner, heat sink, and some fans for the case. Any recommendations?

Is a mid tower case big enough to work comfortably with? I remember my last case (antec p80 I think) was a major PITA to install everything with, and I know the 8800GTX is a rather large card. The full tower lian lis seemed quite a bit more expensive unfortunately and actually sounded a bit TOO big from the reviews. I don't need a lot of space, I just want it to be easy to put together the pc, no trying to cram the hard drive or video card in.

I'm also not sure if the sound card, power supply, and motherboard are really necessary. I know I won't be using wifi, and for sound I'll just be listening to mp3s and playing music on two speakers probably (guess I might use surround but I've never had a good room setup to try that). I don't really see how I'd use 700w either. What do you t hink?

Thanks guys,
Ice

Very similar to my rig which I've been nothing but impressed with. Good graphics on a 24" monitor truly is amazing.
You could probably save $50+ and go with the X-Fi XtremeMusic and not notice a difference.
Saving $40 or so on a PSU might be possible, but with future-proofing in mind you can never go wrong with a little extra. You know how video cards etc go these days. I'm running on a 600W.
DVD burners are $30 a piece. Nothing too special here.
As far as hard drives go, I'm using a 320 gig Seagate 7200.10. Quiet, fast, zero problems.
Heat sink depends if you've overclocking or not. With a machine like this you really shouldn't have to OC (at least I haven't). If you're not, stock HS should be fine. If you are, your wallet's the limit.

Thanks guys, I liked my 250 GB seagate as well so I'll probably just go with them again. I guess won't overclock either, but I guess if I do I can always upgrade later. Now all I've got to do is order it all looks like =)

I just realized my old case was actually an antec TX640B, a mini tower. So I guess a mid tower is one up from that and the lian li would have plenty of space?

Looks like a solid build to me, but like xitshsif said, you probably could get away with a cheaper sound card, and with the PSU its probably better to be safe than sorry, and going with the seagate 7200.10 seems smart. Now go on and order it!!!

judging by the pics on newegg, you may want to definately verify that the 8800gtx will fit as it kind of looks like it may hit a hdd...again, this is just from a a quick glance.

there is a thread around here that gives a link to another site that lists m/b / case combos that work, but due to the search function of this forum, i can't find it......

Thanks for catching that, I found this thread:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/624861.html

It has a list of cases that will fit the 8800 GTX and that lian li isn't on it. I went through all the cases and the coolermaster centurion and the coolermaster wavemaster looked best to me. Even though the coolermaster centurion is cheaper than the wavemaster I actually think I'd prefer it since it doesn't have a front door on it. My friend has the wavemaster and its a decent case, but the reviews on newegg seem good for the centurion so I just decided on that one. Sound good?

Oh I also decided to go for a xp-120 ultra heatsink and a scythe 120mm fan for it.

So that basically takes care of the entire system unless you guys have anything to add.

The Antec P180 does fit one GTX if the upper HD bay is taken out (there is space for 3, I think, in the bottom bay).

You can save a good chunk of money if you are willing to OC the CPU. Are you? If so, here's what I would recommend:

Intel C2D E6300 - $180
ASUS P5B - $135
2x1GB DDR2-667/800 (depends on how far you want to OC), 2.5-2.8GHz, 2.8GHz+
eVGA 8800GTS - $469
WD WD740ADFD - $160
Seagate 320GB 7200.10 - $95
Samsung SH-S182D/NEC ND-3550A/Pioneer DVR-111D - ~$30
Sytrin Nextherm PSU460 - $61
Shipping from newegg.com - $15-20

Antec SLK3000B - $30 + $16 shipping

I have the centurion. It's a good case, definitely well built. Too bad i've never had the pleasure of trying to fit a 8800gtx in there.
