Need Advice On Desktop Build

I'm looking to buy the parts from newegg and assemble them myself for a change this time around. Does anyone have ballpark build that might be good for gaming at around $1000? I'm trying to see if I can cash in on Thanksgiving sales and such to make it cheaper, so I don't have much time to research properly. I'm mostly worried about getting incompatible parts, or at least crappy ones, if I order it in haste now...

I have edited my post. Video card and case are still up in the air. You probably can fit in a GTX 770 and $80 case if you don't need Windows 8.1, or you can simply just go over budget a little. But definitely get the RAM and SSD.

Go get this ram 8 GB Team Vulcan RAM

Need screen resolution and games you intend to play. There are quite a few video card deals right now. There's also a Toshiba 1TB 2.5" hard drive for $50.

i5-4670K+ Asrock Z87 Pro3 ($292)
Team Vulcan RAM ($48)
Seagate 600 SSD ($130)
1 TB Toshiba HD ($50)
Rosewill Hive 750 ($65 before rebate, $40 afterwards)
Samsung 22x DVD burner ($15)
So, that is $400 before rebates left over for case, video card, and OS.

Okay, questions on RAM and PSU. I've always gotten Kingston RAM, and this sounds like a pokemon villain organization making RAM sticks here. Just asking if they are a cheap knock off brand or a quality one. And I might try to go for an SLI setup, so is the Rosewill 750 a good choice for a high level of use? As in might break down or not enough amps?

And the SSD, I previously got a WD Raptor, and I guess I saw a difference with load times. Is it worth getting SSD drives now that they've been out a while? As in I was told the ones that came out earlier had a bad habit of breaking instantly because they were almost a novelty toy at the time...

Yeah, I don't need Windows anything really. I have enough windows 7 keycodes lying around on old cases to get that going all legal and such, bleh. Win 7 is all you need to take advantage of the latest Direct X version, right? I stuck with XP on this comp so I couldn't take advantage of the dx10 cards...

Oh, and as for games, just anything really. Talking about the newest console games, PC versions. I intend to get this thing running anything at all in decently cranked up graphical modes. I'm probably going to try for an SLI setup if I have the money. So I'm basically wanting to focus around the best possible video card that will work with the PSU and be available to shove a second one in there if I please for SLI. Would it be worth going for 2 sticks of 8GB RAM for something like that. I'm not wanting the price to go all out of control, but I like to focus on the most important parts...

DirectX 11.1 is only partially supported on 7. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj863687.aspx

Probably won't be a overly big deal though.

I've never really followed these really high end cards, so I don't know the nuances related to each specific version. Search for reviews regarding the ones that interest you.

As for the case, well, there's quite a few of them. The Fractal Design R4 is at a good price of $80, but it is not the only case out there.

8 GBs of RAM is enough for virtually all current games; even BF4 uses only 6 GB.

SLI does require a more expensive board like the Asrock Z87 Extreme4 and might not be worth it for 1080p.

The Hive 750 should be enough to handle virtually all SLI configurations

IMHO building a PC around a possible upgrade for SLI at some nebulous point in the future is not a good idea. There is a 90%+ probability that you will never do it. Or rather, will be happy with the performance of a single GPU for a few years, at which point you'll just buy a new single card. Therefore its IMHO a better idea to avoid spending extra on SLI-capable parts and just get a better GPU in the first place.

i5 4670K + i5 ASRock Z87 Pro3 combo $277
Team DDR3 1600 8GB $48
EVGA GTX 780 $500
Seagate 240GB SSD $130
Seagate 7200RPM 2TB $80
Lite-ON DVD Burner $15
XFX XXX 650W $40 AR AP
Corsair 400R $50 AR AP
Arctic Cooling Freezer i30 $40
Total: $1190 AR AP

Well, you have a point since I built my last system for SLI, and I didn't end up doing that seven years later. Is that the quietest running 780 you can get for the ~$500 range? There really aren't that many reviews, and I'd hate to get stuck with jet engine cooling fans...
