Need advice on party game

I have some family coming with their kids (age 10, 8, and 5). Was wondering what a good party game for us would be to rent (gamefly). I was thinking Mario Party 8, Rayman Raving Rabids 2, or possibly the sonic olympics.

Anyone care to weigh in on what a good one would be to get?

-oh, we'll have 3 wiimotes + nunchucks.

The mix-and-match nature of the Mario Party minigames makes it a little more forgiving for players with different skill levels, since it's not always every man for himself (Caveat: randomness may make it every man for himself in a lot of cases).

Boom Blox does have a lot of variety, but depending on the mode you're playing it may be tricky for the 5 year old.

I believe it's limited to two-player, but Lego Star Wars/Complete Trilogy/Indiana Jones are fun platformer/puzzle games.

Some families might like the social aspect of puzzle solving in Zack 'n' Wiki, although the game itself is effectively single-player.

I have not yet tried Mario Kart Wii or Mario Strikers Charged, but they're probably worth a look.

Mario Kart. It's easy enough for anyone to pick up and play and even the worst player can get lucky enough items to pull off a win. Nobody doesn't have fun playing mario kart!

I'd skip Mario Party, it's not a very good game. I've played it a few time 4 player and pretty much every games ends with "let's do something else". It takes too long to play especially when you have to read all the mini game descriptions, and controls and whatnot.

I agree with most of the other games people have mentioned. One other game that hasn't been mentioned yet is Warioware: Smooth Moves. It's a a bunch of microgames that last ~20 seconds each and make you do strange things with the wiimote. Hula, smacking flies, squats. It's very entertaining to watch people play.

For a few weeks I was playing it every night with my GF and friends and fam. Her Dad, who I don't think has even played video games before, ended up beating it before I did.

warning: Warioware multiplayer needs to be unlocked. I was shocked when I got it and found out. Took me 2-3 hours of singleplayer to unlock it. Unlocking it was still fun though, we just took turns on the singleplayer stuff.

I have both of the Raving Rabbids games. Both are fun, the first is more challenging and extremely funny, but you have to unlock the games to play them in multiplayer. The second is easier to play and more multiplayer oriented but not as funny.

I forgot about that. I honestly had more fun with four player pass the wiimote single player than I did in the actual multiplayer modes. If/when they come out with a four simultaneous player multiplayer version I'd buy it in an instant.
