Hello,

I would like to use a different internet browser. Since no matter how many updates or fixes MS comes out for IE, those s**t heads always beat the MS team to install unauthorized wares in MS OS. I am an experinced internet user but paranoid about losing confidential info.
SO, I?m really sick of this crap and want to use a different browser that is usually not affected by those annoying software or scripts.

Netscape: not affected by most spy scripts, softwares but merged with AOL now? More ads from those guys.

Anything else i can use?

Thanks

I use and like Opera very much. Its a great program. Doesn't work with some websites but generally it does everything I want.

Give it a try, certainly can't hurt.

www.mozilla.org

Probably the 2nd most popular browser out there right now.

Honestly though there are going to be security issues with whatever browser you run and regardless what you choose it's essential that you always keep it up to date. Fully-patched IE is (generally) no worse than the others. You also should be certain that you have an up-to-date virus scanner as well.

My OS, spyware removers, AV are always up to date. I use Zone Alarm too.
Still, sometimes they'll (S**t heats) come out with new stuff before any OS, IE, AV, ZA updates are available. Loosing password for your online banking or others would be umm.

Ok not trying to get off on the subject here but..
If MS is not a monopoly, how come MS IE is the only IE that is compatible with all the sites?
How come those s**t head love to screw with people who has MS stuff? I never hear about Mac OS, Unix, Linx OS get attacked.
How come zone alarm is not built in with the OS? The enhanced SP2 firewall still suck.
MS is like Visa, Mac is like American Express, Linx is like Discover, Mastercard is like?? Dinners Club is like?? lol

MS OS is the most compatible, yet the most f&&&ed with OS ever.

That's very uncommon.

99.9% of the worms and exploits in the past few years have come out well after the patch is available. Typically the program authors will reverse engineer the patch in order to find out "what got fixed" and attack the un-patched machines.
how come MS IE is the only IE that is compatible with all the sites?
Because that's what (a lot of) web developers will program for. If you've got a website you like but it doesnt render right in other OSes or other browsers than contact the author and tell them to fix it.

Macs and Unix still get attacked; the only reason (nowadays) that Windows is such a big target is because it is more common.
How come zone alarm is not built in with the OS? The enhanced SP2 firewall still suck.
Because Zone Alarm is a seperate product built by a 3rd party (it's not a Microsoft product). The built-in SP2 firewall is a very good inbound firewall; but it does no outbound filtering whatsoever. If you want outbound filtering you need to get a firewall that is capable of it.

MS IE is the only IE - IE is a trademark of MS.

Zone Alarm, quite frankly, is not as good as some say it is.

i'm very picky about my browser and i've finally made the switch to firefox. the 1.0 release is very stable and has given me no issues at all. i'd tried pre-1.0 releases and not been happy, but i think they've finally nailed it down now.

I would, but the internet banking that I use requires IE, so I still have it installed for that purpose. I feel that it is a very secure and stable browser. You may find that some apps do require you to have IE installed, but that's no prob... as it is already installed with Windows!

Here is a quote taken from the Mozilla website on the issue of security

The Mozilla Foundation continues to have a very strong track record on security. According to Secunia, an independent security monitoring organization, Firefox currently has 1 open security issue, out of a total of 13 security advisories filed in 2003 and 2004. 0% of these are labeled "extremely critical", 15% are labeled "highly critical". For the same period, Secunia lists 16 open security issues out of 44 advisories for Internet Explorer 6.0, 14% of which are labeled "extremely critical", 34% are "highly critical".

I cannot rave enough about firefox.... NO problems since latest release. Once in a while I will encounter a page that will not load properly. Very rarely, now, in fact. Themes, plug-ins... hell, it even has Chatzilla installed... an IRC client. It's so easy to use, it's ridiculous. Simple design, EXTREMELY SECURE, one window with multiple tabs for miltiple pages, bookmark toolbar, and google search bar= extremely happy user.

Well you can't realy 'trust' anything on the internet when it comes to stuff like that, but firefox is a hell of a lot more trustworthy in that respect then IE.

Even though Firefox is aviable at no cost don't confuse it with the cheapy shareware stuff that you see. It's rendering engine is calle Gecko and is based on the original Netsape 4.0 browser. Netscape released the code for that browser under a open source license once it was obvious that they were losing ground to internet explorer and it was attempt to accelerate developement. However the netscape code base was to far gone and very clunky and it took a while to correct all of it's problems in a short amount of time. Eventualy it was bought out by AOL and Mozilla was used to create Netscape 6.0...

Eventally AOL, in it's infinate wisdom, dropped what remained of the Mozilla/Netscape developement team and the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation with 10 million dollars of seed money from AOL.

Mozilla itself has been used for a number of years by the OpenSource/Free software community which as a average whole is much more security concious and aware then your average Windows user and always have had a choice between several competing browsers...

Generally when you go by a application to application comparision with FOSS vs Closed source applications the free/open source software generally has a very good security record.

Mozilla Foundation is a community driven project that enjoys the participation of thousands of independant and some very professional programmers that use and depend on it's software themselves on a daily basis. It's open, the source is aviable for peer review, and incorporates things like a public bug reporting system and a 500 dollar bounty for people who report any possible security problems.

Thanks to all of your inputs!
Man i like you guys.
One last question.. How do I get rid of the annoying screen shake with random web pages while using Firefox 1.0??
The shaking seems to happen with any web pages, but randomlly shakes upon loading. SOme times it shake, some times it does not shake. (the content inside of the Firefox frame shakes, not the whole screen)
Weird.

THanks

What are you talking about? You realize that the only difference between a PHP site and a HTML site is on the server, and the browser always receives pure HTML either way?
