Need assistance picking a mobo....

Hey guys im buying a mobo this weekend and im looking for assistance deciding which i should get, im looking for one that supports pc100 memory, and not ddr....i dont wanna have to buy new mem...also, i want it to be amd as im going to buy and amd processor, im going to buy new from frys so im looking for say a duron or like a 1600 athlon or whatever they are now...any help is appreciated...

P.S. Fanboys stay away......

Almost forgot, looking for CHEAP i wont be doing any overclocking, just need something semi-current to run UT2003....

I believe frys occasionally has a 1.2 ghz bare duron and an ecs k7s5a (it supports pc2100 and pc100) for $129

They also have a 1800+ and ecs mobo for $169

Those are the prices as i remember them 1 month ago, they might have went down =D

The ecs k7s5a is probably the best bang for the buck since ur cheap =D

It has a built in nic and integrated audio

<-----MR. Cheapo...(see also poor bastard) anyway, i ahve one other kinda important message, would that duron/mobo combo perform enough better then the p3 550 i currently have to warrant the purchasE? mainly i just play 3d games...and burn the occasional cd...

<~~How cheap is Mr. Cheap? I'd advise you to dump that PC100, I don't recommend buidling a computer around that memory -too dated, too slow. I say save that extra 40 bucks and get yourself some PC2100

But if you insist on being Mr Cheap I believe the K75SA supports PC100 for while still has future support for DDR memory. But the horror stories in the motherboard section is pretty scary. Cost you ~$50 & possibly your sanity! <~~ okay that was a little extreme

ive been reading that the k7s5a is pretty decent...what kind of horror stories? to be honest, i dont want to spend more then $200 so if someone can give me the ideal setup i should buy for that from fry's including memory if needed, i would be mucho grateful

I just put the exact same setup in my Mom's old 233Mhz IBM box, with one of their "VISIONTEK Xtasy 5632 GEFORCE2 GTS-V 4X/2X 32MB DDR AGP" cards ($45) I and it screams. The frame rates are probably not as good as you would get with a GeForce 3 or 4 card, but sure are better than the MX solutions.

This is a very stable setup, no BSOD's, no problems whatsoever, as long as it is not overclocked, and all standard memory timings used.
