After much troubleshooting with my new problem which is trying to figure out why my computer lost its ability to shutdown or restart correctly.

I formatted my HDD last night and installed my OS again, but I am still getting that anomaly with the shutdown/restart not working still

But my question is when I look in *Device Manager* I am getting a yellow circle with the beloved black exclamation point in the
"Other device"/PCI universal Serial Bus.

How do I get rid of that puppy ? btw, I did install the VIA drivers.

I think they were the #1437s.

Thanks.........TP

Oops, one more item. I notices that in *Device Manager* under 'Monitors' it lists "Default Monitor" and the monitor which I use the "Viewsonic P815",
why does it list two monitors ?

Thanks..............TP

In device manager is your ACPI stuff ok? I think thats the stuff that takes care of hard on/off.
Also, have you played around with the wires that connect your reset/start button on the mobo? If not, go ahead and play with them

By shutdown/restart correctly - you mean what exactly. What is the correct way and how is your way different. See.. im lazy. If my pc wasnt shutting down right, i would just unplug it. But thats just me.

By restart I mean this: if for whatever I want to do a system reset (restart) in Windows I usually just hit the Start/Shutdown/restart button and do a system reset and my computer will restart itself but what happens is when I do do that it (Windows) will go out of Windows and then hang at a black screen
and not go back into Windows.

The same thing happens if I select the regular shutdown way : Start/Shutdown/Shutdown button then when I do that the computer just hangs at a black screen and then I have to use the main power switch to turn it off.

My OS is WinME. But with all of my hardware and OS its been running great until just the other night....
