Hey just need some help choosing a new CPU heatsink the stock cooler is garbage lol. I'm running a stock cooler on my Q6600 G0 and thats holding me back from achieving a higher overclock. I can achieve a min of 3.0GHz on stock but have to keep an eye on my temp. But want to achieve 3.2 to 3.5GHz overclock and stock is a no go. So i need a new cooler. Ive read a ton of threads and review about different coolers for about a month now and i cant decide. But there is a lot of good one out there that i like. I just need one that achieve that overclock. Kinda wish i could get more then one but just need one good one. What do you guys think. The ones that interested me are lol:

Thermalright ULTRA-120 Extreme
Thermaltake maxorb
Thermaltake V1
Zalman CNPS9500
Zalman CNPS9700
Coolermaster GeminII
Coolermaster Sphere
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Noctua NH-U12P
Scythe Mine REV.B
Scythe Ninja Plus REV.B
Sunbeam Tuniq Tower 120

Thanks in advance

Q6600? Tuniq tower.

btw, some of the heatsinks you listed are for AMD (specifically, the Freezer 64 Pro, haven't recommended that since C2D came out)

I'm getting my Zalman 9700 this week.
It's on the way =)
I'll let you know how it does after I install if you still haven't made up your mind yet.
oh an I also have Q6600
I don't know why but I can't even get to 3.0 right now though...
my ideal temp is at 50 -_-

If you've read some reviews and you have Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme on your list, assuming that you'll buy a fan for it, there's not really anything to think about here. It's hands down the best air cooler out there with a good fan like Scythe S-Flex SFF21F. If you thought you don't want to buy a fan in addition to the heatsink, Tuniq Tower 120 is your best bet.

I hate to say it, but I believe the general idea is that the Zalman 9500 and 9700 are mediocre at best. They're not horrible: probably somewhere between the Freezer 7 Pro and Tuniq Tower in performance. They're just EXPENSIVE for what you get.

The Ultra 120 Extreme is probably THE BEST available right now, unless you go with another type of cooling. However, they previously had a lot of problems with bases that weren't flat (poor cooling results until lapped), etc. I don't know if they still do, but it was enough to keep me away.

The Tuniq Tower is almost as good as a properly-functioning Ultra 120 Extreme, and I haven't heard any quality problem complaints. The Scythe Infinity and Ninja are large, and also perform decently well.

The Freezer 7 Pro performs pretty well, but the cost is probably the best asset. It won't beat the pants off of any of the above mentioned, but it WILL cost you about half as much, and still give you about 2/3rds of the cooling power, if not more.

Tuniq tower for out of the box performance. Thermalright U120X for best overall performance but, it's going to take some work to get it(ie. lapping the hell out of the base)

How about the Cooler Master Hyper 212? It's good perf/price, but at newegg the tuniq is only $5 more, so...

The tuniq is more like $20 more than the hyper 212 but, the freezer 7 performs a little better for the exact same moneys.

so basically what ur saying is the the ultra 120 extreme will need some work done to it out of the box. Ie lapping isnt really my thing. Really dont know if the tuniq tower 120 will fit in my case coolermaster cm690

so the ultra 120 extreme has to be lapped it doesnt work properly out of the box. How well will an unlapped ultra 120 extreme run. The ultra 120 extreme would cost me 40-50cnd and the Tunis tower 120 would cost me 50-60cnd. Can some justify why does yhe tuniq cost more if the ultra outpreforms it really doesnt make sense.

Here you go... $46.52 cad

hey thanks for the link really appreciated. Thats a way better price. I know this thing is huge and weighs in at almost 800grams i just have a couple of questions about that, i cant find when googling. Now i know it will fit a coolermaster cm690 case, but what about on a gigabyte P35 DS4 motherboard. And because of the weight issue will the motherboard warp over time. Anyone have that issue thanks

Upon a quick google search I find no issues with it fitting that motherboard, and if no ones out there bitching about it, it's probably not a problem. As for in that case, unlike older NF4 board where nvidia lovingly put the processor below the ram just to F with us, the cpu placement on that board will put the tuniq right in line with the rear fan, you're good to go.

I can't gaurintee you could keep the top one but, I don't know that you'd want to. It's basically going to be blowing onto the flat top of the cooler and just causing turbulence.
