Need DATA1.MSI (Office 2k Premium) anyone have it?

Hi...new request. Normally I don't do so much on a PC I am working on but this is for a charity that's struggling.

I have the machine here but they couldn't find their discs at the time I picked up the machine. They said it was Office 2000 Professional they had though and i knew I have those discs here.

They actually have 2k Premium. My DATA1.MSI file will not work to run the service packs.

Does anyone have this file?

crap second issue, I need DATA1.MSI from Office 2k Premium I only have Professional here which is what they say they had.

Anyone have this file handy? Otherwise we are going to have to do it all Monday on-site.

I would just slipstream SR1a and SP3 into the CD installation files, burn back to CD and completely reinstall Office.

yeah but that's the problem...it's this charity full of old people. The machine I have now hasn't been updated with anything since 2005. Things weren't working anymore because the browser, flash, acrobat reader, etc were so outdated.

The lady is looking for her discs she thought those were just music though and may have thrown them away.

Fortunately they are on XP at least and I was able to bring them to SP3.

They are thinking about picking up three 2010 licenses esp if I couldn't update this.

Oddly they don't do much surfing so had only one minor virus.

Suggest they buy Office 2007 or even Office 2003 ... much cheaper than Office 2010 and most people will not the newest features in Office 2010 (at around $150 more than what 2003 or 2007 can be found for)

No good...MSP file for an admin image. Need the MSI for a stand-alone.

AFAIK, there is no stand-alone updater for SR-1/SR-1a, but the admin updater will function as a stand-alone update if you provide the installation media (it then completely reinstalls Office 2000 with SR-1/a applied). The data1.msi file is only found in the installation files/media.

I hate trying to push you in a different direction and am just trying to help you, but Open Office is an order of magnitude a better solution over Office 2K unless they absolutley have to have Outlook.

I support a couple of charities, and told them to either find a logical reason to justify older versions of office, or move to Open Office so we can stop playing 'hunt for the disc'. For the record, I'm neutral on either product politically.

Suggest they buy Office 2007

Missed thise one.

One of the Charities I support is running P4s with nothing having more than 512 meg of RAM. Some with 256. Office 2007 runs like a dead whale on those platforms.

I also suggest looking at either 'Office Live' basic, or getting some free licenses because they typically get free software via the proper channels. Anything to get away from the legacy support cycle because it will just devour your time.

That's the thing...they have mostly these HP Presarios. All have 256MB. The one I am working one (had to pull 2000 Premium off a torrent in the end) I 'donated' a 256MB chip I had on my shelf just so I could work on the thing easier.

The biggest thing they have is they don't want a lot of change as everyone is old. They are even using 'Single Click' desktops that work like websites...man I turned that off so I could work easier too.

I explained if they upgraded their Office they are going to be facing issues with the memory sizes they have and even upgraded more than likely slower performance.

They are at the point though were their hard drives are nearing the point where they begin to die. They bought these machines 5+ years ago.
