need dvd advice

I want to buy a dvd for my computer. I have a duron # 900mhz. Compusa has the I O Magic 12max for $99-20 rebate. I am sure there are better drives but would I be able to tell the difference? What would you suggest?

I have Toshiba's 12x/40x, nice and quiet. I got it for $80 plus s&h. go check out pricewatch.

I've had good luck with Toshiba 6X & 12X. Also toshiba has a newer 16X out.

I have the new toshiba (M1502)16X32 and it works great. If you are into backing up you programs, the toshibas are the best readers for clondcd too. You can get one for around $100 us.
