I'm all for car stereos. I had 2x 12" C-V! subs in my old truck, and I enjoyed blasting it. But then I was 16 at the time.

I was also courteous enough not to crank it in residential areas or places where people would be bothered by my noise. It's people like you who have no respect for others that give car stereo fans a bad rap. Fscking bumping your crap in front of people's houses. If you're going to go for an SPL crushing sound system then for God's sake, make it for competition, not to show the entire world that you're enjoying making yourself deaf.

well some just roll down the windows so you can hear tinny highs along with the distorted bass. i wonder if they have to roll down the windows because their cars electrical system can't handle the extra load from AC

I knew a guy that had four Audiobahn 12s in the back of his (go figure) Camaro- wickedest system in the entire county. You could hear him from a quarter mile away or more- it was insane! I think there was a 1000w amp in the mix somewhere...

Ditch the 15s, get four 12s.

Ornery lighten up a little. Adul and Jerboy were giving advice. They never said that they drive around blasting and try to annoy people with sound. FYI I have two 10 inch subs in my trunk. I have the entire car dynomatted. I want to keep the sound inside not outside. I don't care for people who blast. They are jerks. I don't do it. Either a JL 13W7 (13") or an Image Dynamics IDMAX (12"), you can get either one for $400 if you look hard enough. Sealed box if you want tight, ported if you want rumble. Don't skimp on the box, probably cost you at least $200 (box is more important than the driver, cheap ones are a waste of your time and money). You'll need an amp that'll do at least 1000W for the JL, 700W will be enough to drive the IDMAX. JBL BP1200.1 and an external subsonic filter will do the trick and keep you under budget.

It is a fact that the kind of SPL you will be generating will cause you to lose your hearing - quickly. I do have a car audio system that can annoy the neighbors and drivers around me . . . however, I also realize that it is dangerous to my hearing.

I also understand that having this kind of system is a status symbol among young people.

Do you want to do. You are getting advice and also negative responses here - that is to be expected - this is an open board.

And I vote for just adding MORE subs if you really want that kind of bass - fill the trunk and maybe a couple more under your back seat - it is more cost effective than 18 inchers.

Also, you might check the phasing of your current speaker wires (they are heavy enough gauge, right?). That can play havoc with "tight" bass.
