I'm digging Shift 2 right now. I was hoping I would like it more than GRID (and I really like GRID), and at this point I certainly do.

Are you getting the dark in-car dash too? Are you using a ATI card? I was getting it some, but changed some settings it helped but still a little dark. Definitely not as visible as Shift 1.

The recent Hot Pursuit was such an intensely terrible game that I refuse to look at anything with the NFS title, except perhaps Shift (haven't tried the second one yet).

I dont blame you. They keep churning out crap and whats worse is people keep buying it.

Yeah, it's a little dark. (I have an ATI card btw)

The game certainly isn't perfect, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. It could definitely come up a notch graphically - I was a bit disappointed with that. Dirt 3 seems to have better textures and detail overall.

I like the look better than GRID, but I wouldn't say it's really all that much better (especially considering GRID was released in 07). I really like GRID, but I just don't care for that "soft yellow blanket" approach to graphics.

Obligatory:

Need for Speed has really gone downhill since Porsche Unleashed.

Edit, let me elaborate:

I want two lane highways with traffic to be turned on and off.

INTERESTING TRACKS - NFS 3 and 4 had very memorable tracks. I still remember Aquatica, Atlantica, Dolphin Cove, Celtic Ruins, etc.

INTERESTING CARS - NFS 3 and 4 didn't have Ford Mustangs, if I really wanted to, I could buy one. How about the expensive cars we could only dream of driving 100 mph around a corner while being chased by the cops? There was a reason a Honda Civic wasn't available in the classic NFSes. This isn't Forza. Or even the Shift spinoff.

Oh yeah, Cops. Radar detectors in the car's dash underneath the rearview was cool, it was almost musical approaching a cop.

I want it made for the PC from the ground up with no regards to consoles, but that's never going to happen.

Anyway, I give up on this series.

Have you tried Hot Pursuit? It is the highest rated of all the need for speed games on metacritic and it has an amazing list of supercars.

Shift 2 is really surprisingly good. except the horrible interface and the weird magnet attraction between cars and walls.

Only 2 games that was any good in series were Porsche unleashed and SHift2 imo.

Hot Pursuit is a ton of fun. Not as great as Criterion's other games, but still fun.

Yeah, I think some people need to understand that the new Hot Pursuit was actually made by Criterion (the burnout devs), and not the regular EA people. I also heard it was actually one of the better NFS games that have come out recently.

I've had a bit of fun with Shift 2. It's not amazing, but it's pretty decent.
