Need For Speed Underground Online Crashing Help Please

Picked up this at Best Buy during the week since 2 came out and the price dropped a lot. Everytime I go to Play Online, it crashes to the desktop. Tried to reinstall a few times now, same deal. Yes I patched it to 1.4. Runs fine in single player mode. Tried it on a different machine, same problem. Downloaded the demo, same problem on both machines! Emailed EA about it. They told me to open a ton of ports. So I tried unplugging the Linksys router altogether, still the same problem.

Anybody have any ideas?

opening ports in your router enables NFSU2 to communicate with the EA servers etc, vertain games like certain ports, so unplugging the router further makes it harder for the game to talk to the EA servers, so it just crashes. So, you have to BE online to PLAY online or the game crashes... and the method by which you open ports in your router depends on what type of router you have, i suggest reading the manual (always a good idea) to learn how to do that ok?

I unplugged the Linksys from the nic and put it directly to the cable modem, turned off SP2's firewall and rebooted. I was online without anu closed ports with no software or hardware firewalls at this point. Still crashed when selecting Play Online.

This is also NFSU1, not 2. 1 is a lot cheaper now at the stores

plus, honestly being online at all with NO firewall, at all is kinda dumb, its like asking to get attacked...
don't become vulnerable online just because you don't want to learn how to open ports on your firewall, Firewalls are there for a reason

I reconnected it after I was done testing

The whole point was to see if it was a port issue.

Going to bump this. Still waiting to hear EA's tech reply for a second time but want to get ideas. Maybe I'll just bitch at Best Buy to take it back and let me pay the difference for NFSU2 and hope it won't be as anal.
