Need good christmas party themes.

My roommate and I are planning to throw a bash in a couple of weeks to celebrate the holiday and are trying to come up with a good theme. Yes the ugly sweater party is fun, but a bit overplayed. So we are trying to come up with some other things.

Some that came up:

Movie themed: A Christmas story/National Lampoons Christmas

We threw a Mele Kalikimaka luau a few years ago for our annual X-Mas party. Loads of fun, and different than the usual team of horses and wagon my wife had rented for the previous several years...(wagon decorated with x-mas lights and played x-mas music...people went for a ride and looked at the houses decorated and lit. Almost everyone took at least one beer or "cup of cheer" along for the ride.
The luau was a "catered affair", even though we bought the food and did much of the cooking ourselves. We had a Hawaiian chef do the kalua pic, chicken long rice, and several other traditional luau dishes. He also brought along one of the Hawaiian dance troups and a couple of musicians, and we had hula in the house...(sadly, they were all kids...no hot-sexy hula dancers...

The Lord of Misrule, known in Scotland as the Abbot of Unreason and in France as the Prince des Sots, was an officer appointed by lot at Christmas to preside over the Feast of Fools. The Lord of Misrule was generally a peasant or sub-deacon appointed to be in charge of Christmas revelries, which often included drunkenness and wild partying, in the pagan tradition of Saturnalia. .

In ancient Rome, from the 17th to the 23rd of December, a Lord of Misrule was appointed for the feast of Saturnalia, in the guise of the good god Saturn. During this time the ordinary rules of life were turned topsy-turvy as masters served their slaves, and the offices of state were held by slaves. The Lord of Misrule presided over all of this, and had the power to command anyone to do anything during the holiday period. This holiday seems to be the precursor to the more modern holiday, and it carried over into the Christian era.

Roman soldiers would choose a man from among them to be the Lord of Misrule for thirty days. At the end of that thirty days, his throat was cut on the altar of Saturn.
