Need Hard drive Utility Program

Please help...

I have a fujitsu mpc3084at that got messed up. Somehow it got changed to 64 heads and 63 cyl... so I get only about 2 gigs.
When originally it is 16 heads and 63 sectors resulting in 8.4 gigs.

I got the fujitsu's ontrack program but it doesn't let me re format with different arrangements of heads and cylinders. Does anyone have a program that can reformat the hard drive to og settings?

A couple years ago i had a program that let me set each cylinder and head... I CAN"T FIND IT ANYWHERE!

besides fujitsu i am not sure

have you tired running it in a WinXP box and run disk management or better still Partition Magic 7 ??

you have LBA selected in bios? or auto?

it won't let you manually select the settings? or it won't save them?

does your bios support large drives, or is that why you have to run the ontrack software. Check for a bios upgrade for your motherboard maybe large disk support was added...what mb is it?

I have tried partition magic 7... just last night. But on the boot disks it doesn't have a function to reformat the heads and sectors. Just about partitioning and formatting...

I never had a problem with the bios before. But i'm going to try to update the bios. But i really doubt its the bios, i can select LBA and i can select and save all those things manually.

I think the problem is just how it was formatted earlier. I need to restore it to original settings.
And my mobo is a Intel 440 BX... it is an NEC computer that was factory built. (its one of my rigs on my rigs page)

SpinRite is one of the best drive utilities out there but it's not cheap (www.grc.com). I don't recall that Fujitsu ever offered any utilities like some of the other makers do other than Ontrack. There are several Fdisk-like utilities around the web for download and other disk utils. Perhaps one of them could re-config your drive. Try www.download.com and www.tucows.com. Good luck.

I've just put a new 40 gig hard drive, and the computer recognizes all 40 gigs. SO its that freaking hard drive. I tried it on a new system, and they only see 2 gigs as well. Serious time to contact fujitsu. Dang... this program must be really rare!
