Need hdd buying advice

OK, im thinking about buying one of them Seagate X15 15,000rpm SCSI harddisks, as they are reasonably affordable right now (for a SCSI drive), but im wondering if i should, or if i should wait untill the other manufacturers like IBM launch their 15k drives.

Well, wether or not it is reasonable is open for question, but i made the decision to go all scsi a long time ago, and so far im not disappointed. I can get the Seagate 15k for about $100 more than an Quantum Atlas 10k II of the same size. So i feel its reasonable in that perspective. I do wonder what the prices will do when other 15k disks are there, though when i see that an IBM 10k disk is substantially more expensive than the Seagate 15k where i live, i doubt the prices will go down that easy.

its true that IBM prices for SCSI harddrive dont go down much. agreed on that 100%. As for your questions regards to the X15, Man i wish i had waited for it. 1.5 years ago i brought a 10K Quantum for that price and its only 9.1 Gig U160.

go for the X15 if you really need that burn hole in your wallet. Personally after going all SCSI from IDE, I felt that there is a increase in over all performance but now i'm leaning towards a IBM 75GX ATA100 drive with 2 times the capacity and at less than half the price.

Seagate X15 18Gig = $370
IBM 75GX 45Gig = $160


ahhhh hell with it i dont need any of them now got no money.

wait until ibm's 15k drive hit the shelves .. that'll introduce competition at 15k.

see how benches look for the ibm drive. seagate is also poised to release X15_rev2, which might better the ibm drive. at the very least, it will apply pricing pressure to the current X15.
