Need help accessing my network!!

Grrr! This is really pissing me off. I just bought a laptop from a nice fellow AT member, and I figured, to save money, I can just skip buying the CD-ROM because my laptop came with an ethernet card (so I could access the network and share my D: drive on my desktop to install stuff). Seemed like a brilliant idea, until now; I can't access the network!

I haven't a clue what I am doing wrong. I can go online fine, just when I try to access the network, it doesn't work. My networking devices are as follows (on my laptop):

Client for Microsoft Networks
Microsoft Family Logon
Dial-up Adapter
Network of Xircom CreditCard Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56K
TCP/IP -> Dial-up Adapter
TCP/IP -> Network of Xircom CreditCard Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56K
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

I can access the netwrok from this computer, but not from the laptop. But the only thing I get when I search the network from my computer, is my computer, so its useless. I don't see my laptop. This is getting really annoying!

Edit- Oh yeah, the error I get when I try to seach the "Entire Network" is Unable to browse the network.

What OS are you running? I seem to have the same problem with my XP laptop. I can see the laptop fine from my desktop, but not vice versa. I guess just make sure that your workgroup name is the same, and check to see that your link lights are on. Try accessing the laptop from your desktop and see if that works. Or maybe setting up a FTP server to transfer files. Hope this helps.

I am running Windows95 on the laptop and 98se on my desktop.

My internet is fine on the laptop, I can go online, I just can't get into the network. I open "Network Neighborhood" but when I try to access the "Entire Network" it gives me the error Unable to browse the network.

I can't see the laptop from my desktop or my own laptop (because I can't even access the network). But I can see my own computer from my desktop..

I'm confused!

Hmm...maybe try installing NETBEUI?

WAHOO! Thanks, got it working.

But now I have a new problem:

I am ultimately trying to install Starcraft on my laptop. So, I put my starcraft CD into my desktop CD ROM, share my D drive, then acces that via my laptop. But when I try to install it on my laptop, I get the following error:

"Setup cannot read a required data file. Your Starcraft CD may not be in the CD ROM drive." blah, blah, blah!

So how can I get this to work? Could it be possible to install Starcraft on my desktop then take it from there and put it on my laptop?

...I'm thinking it would have been easier to have bought the CD-ROM drive with my laptop.

lol probably try just transferrring all the setup files from the cdrom to the laptop then running setup on the laptop? I do that with alot of things.
