Vista 64 bit sp1
evga geforce 8800gts

Well out of the blue im getting the dreaded "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered". At first I couldnt play wow the graphics would blur and eventually crash. I tried changing the power cord to another one for the gpu, same thing.

I cant restore cause I cleaned the pc and the restore points was erased. At this moment im Re-installing XP to see if its a operating system related error or the gpu itself, or I guess it could be the PSU? Any suggestions?

Edit
Well after installing xp I cant seem to update my nvidea driver properly with the newest patch release, and the archives doesnt show a patch before that one. I need to know if my gpu is crappiin out on me or not. God spending hours on this all night

Well I been at it some more, reinstalled xp again and made a restore point at bare bones(fresh XP install nothing on).

When I try installing the driver from nvidea it says incorrect command line paramaters and says code 10 in device manager. When I try installing the driver from EVGA it seems to install correctly says deviced working properly in device manager, but when you restart pc everything is totally distorted. When I install driver from evga videocard installation cd it installs fine and seems to be working with this outdated driver, guess not its unstable with random graphical glitches leading to a lock up.

Whats going on, I really need help as time is slipping by. Strange that the card had graphical instability on vista 64 alll of a sudden and now I cant install up to date drivers on a freshly installed xp

EDIT>>>
Well I tried replacing the 8800gts with a 6600gt and after I installed the drivers for the 6600gt and restarted the screen was corrupted. So I powered down and took out my soundlblaster xfi , 3 gigs, and restarted. Now I cannot get bios to recognize my sata drive.

Finally got sata drive recognized in a different port, so I started up now with 1 gig ram no soundblaster and uninstalled display driver, reinstalled 6600gt driver, restart, graphics corrupted

Is this a mobo problem?

Wow you went threw allot to get nowhere. Generally an error like that means you need to reinstall the drivers. No need to update or to reinstall windows.

Now it seams you've complicated things a bit.

Well I have it running now, it would not let me install drivers for the 6600gt and 8800gts with a fresh install of xp, NO CLUE WHY as I did that xp install a lot of times.

I ended up installing vista 64 again after I finally got mobo to recognize sata drives again, and I seem to have it running so far stable without sp1 installed.

I spent a good 10 hours with this and dont know why xp gave problems after fresh install or why I had problems in the FIRST PLACE. I hope this work out

Oh reinstalling the drivers would not work on vista at the time of the problem, it had some kind of error message at the end of display driver install, even on the uninstall it mentioned a error.

Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered

Is this my mobo that is causing this, I sure like to find out so I can order something to fix this.

Ok so I erased driver again/safemode/drivercleaner/reinstall evga driver from web site crashed from just viewing photos.

Here is a update on November 10(today), since my last post the pc has been RUNNING with NO problems with 2 gigs hard drives out and a home fan blowing on everything. But today it had the displa driver crap again while playin wow.

So I shut down pc and rebooted with fan blowing straight on graphics card(Its hot, by hand touch its hot) and guess what same thing graphics driver again, glitching. So I restored Vista 64 to November 5 before couple windows downloads and so far its working and im currently playing.
Whats this all about seems like a driver issue or something, I turned windows update off and ill see if it runs into this problem with windows updated to this current state and currrent display driver.

Its either the drivers themselfs or the card has issues. But there is another possibility.

OCZ PSUs are known for having high ripple on heavy loads. This ripple can cause stability issues in your system and may be contriubting to the problem.

You may need to download the newest motherboard drivers from ASUS as well as any BIOS updates but I would try next to just get the newest graphics driver from NVIDIA to install. First do a complete uninstall of the NVIDIA display driver. Then use Driver Sweeper to remove any remaining trace of the NVIDIA display driver and make sure you reboot before install the new driver. You can get Driver Sweeper here....
